Contest now open to select the Grand Marshal for the 2010 MSPCA-Angell Walk for Animals

Boston.com Pets is teaming up with the MSPCA-Angell to select a dog to be the Grand Marshal for the MSPCA-Angell Walk for Animals in Boston on Sunday, September 12. The search is on for the “Leader of the Pack” and submissions, including a photo and short essay, are being accepted through September 7th by clicking here.

The winner of the “Leader of the Pack” contest will be selected by a panel of judges assembled by the MSPCA-Angell and will be notified via phone or email. In addition to becoming the "Leader of the Pack," the winning dog will be featured on Boston.com Pets and the MSPCA-Angell's address labels, which are sent to 500,000 people. The winner's owner will receive free parking at the event.

This year marks the 30th anniversary of the annual MSPCA-Angell Walk for Animals. 2,000 people, along with 1,000 of their pooches, are expected to take part in the 1.5-mile walk around the Boston Common (no dog required to attend!). Come and enjoy a day for the entire family, filled with entertainment including gravity defying Frisbee catching dogs, canine contests including Stupid Pet Tricks, and much more. You can also teach your dog something new with the MSPCA’s Animal Care and Adoption Center agility ring and nose work area.

As one of the MSPCA-Angell’s largest fundraisers, participants are asked to register and collect pledges for their walk. Participants will be listed on the MSPCA-Angell Web site, along with a scrolling total of the amount of donations you raised. Incentives for fundraisers include $300 raised: MSPCA Drink Kozy, $500 raised: MSPCA Grocery Tote Bag, $1,000 raised: All previous prizes and a MSPCA Stainless Steel Water Bottle, $3,000 raised: All previous prizes and a MSPCA picnic blanket, and $5,000 raised: All fundraising prizes listed and a tour of the MSPCA-Angell with President Carter Luke.
