A small dog was found injured and wandering in a tunnel leading to Boston's Tobin Bridge last week. The Chihuahua/Jack Russell Terrier mix was quickly corralled by a state trooper and an incident response operator and immediately brought to the MSPCA for care. The MSPCA has been caring for the fragile dog since last Thursday and is asking the public for information regarding his origins.

Tobin, the young mix breed canine, spent several days in an oxygen cage at Angell Animal Medical Center while emergency and critical care staff members stabilized him and evaluated the extent of his injuries. It was discovered that Tobin suffered from a bruised and collapsed lung, a dislocated hip, and several pelvic fractures. The injuries are similar to those sustained when an animal is hit by a car, although in an original emergency call to local authorities a witness claims to have seen the dog either jump from or be thrown from a moving car.

Do you recognize Tobin? If you do, please call the MSPCA at (617) 541-5120.

The MSPCA is continuing to care for Tobin following a successful surgery on his femur to relieve the pain caused by his injuries. The cost of Tobin’s care and surgery is estimated to cost between $4,500 and $6,000. The MSPCA plans to cover the cost of Tobin's surgery through the organization's Spike’s Fund, which helps the non-profit’s Animal Care and Adoption Center cover the cost of surgeries for homeless animals.

“We are able to help heal countless animals through the public’s support of Spike’s Fund,” MSPCA director of Animal Care and Adoption Centers, Jean Weber. “We plan to use donations made to this fund to help us care for Tobin as well as the animals that will come through our doors tomorrow in need of care.”

The MSPCA is asking members of the public who may know Tobin to come forward with any information regarding his owners. To report any information regarding Tobin please call the MSPCA at (617) 541-5120.
