In April of 2010 I had to make the heartbreaking decision to put my Rottweiler, “Captain,” down.  He was my "little man".  Our other dog, an American Staffie that we had adopted 10 years earlier, was left quite lonely. My husband and I started looking for a friend for her.

As a Sunday volunteer at the Nevins Farm barn, I have the pleasure of going to the laundry room, where the door happens to be right near the dog kennels area. Every week I stop in and say hello to every furry face.  I had brought Nikita in to meet an older fellow, but she didn't care much for him.

My husband and I made another trip with her to meet an older Beagle & some Boston Terriers -- none of which she cared for! That's when Maya brought Google out, we thought “oh God! he's young, energetic and big -- everything she's not!”. Google immediately hit the ground, crawled over to her, and that was it.  Her tail was going and she actually started playing with him! We knew right then and there he was the one, so we filled out the paperwork and brought him home.  Since that day Nikita has been like a puppy herself and although she can't quite keep up with him, he knows to go easy on her.  The best is to see them at night curled up in bed together.  People make comments like "oh, you saved him." But the truth is he saved us.
