Spokes (Zipps)
October 12, 2011

We adopted Spokes (Zipps was the name he had at adoption) in February of 2007.  My husband and I were a childless couple and we wanted a dog.  We went to Nevins Farm in search of our new, forever dog and as we pulled in I said, “anything but a Pit Bull.”  So we went in and saw a few dogs we liked, walked a few, then came across Zipps.  He was a Pit Bull/American Bulldog mix, so we were reluctant.  But we decided to take him for a walk anyway, and we fell in love.  We wanted to make sure it was a true match so we stayed with him for several hours.  My husband was nervous, never having had a dog before.  I played tug of war with Spokes, and he was playful and clearly had lots of love to give.

We brought him home and got to know him while he got to know us.  There were a few of trial-and-errors to make sure the three of us were happy.  But Spokes quickly became a lap dog, refusing to be in his crate - he preferred the couch!  Since the adoption our family has grown; we now have 2-year-old twin boys.  Initially, we were nervous, but Spokes has proven to be a true lover.  He has truly changed my initial thinking of Pit Bulls.
