Sugar
October 3, 2011

In April 2011, a little white dog named Sugar was hit by a car on the streets of Boston. She was dropped off at Angell with a leg broken in 2 places and no identifiable owners. After being kenneled for a week, her own personal 'angel' Kim raised enough money to pay for the surgery to fix her leg. Poor Sugar now needed a home where she could get the attention, training and exercise she desperately needed.

When we met Sugar, she was a sweet 1-year-old Pit Bull who had spent 2 months at the hospital and loved any interaction and attention she could get. We decided to foster Sugar to give her the consistent home and rehab for her leg that she deserved. She made fast friends with our other dog Lexi, and immediately warmed our home.  She quickly learned that proper behavior at home earned her extra snuggle time on the couch with us!

After attempting many times to find her a quality home, we soon realized that our home was exactly what Sugar needed. She loves meeting our friends, toy in mouth and tail wagging so much it raises her back legs off the ground. She now runs every morning, swims every week at Flowdog, and walks without any limp. She even just completed her first hike up Cadillac Mountain in Acadia National Park!

After meeting our sweet Sugar, people always tell us that getting hit by a car might have been the best thing to happen to her. I always correct them and let them know: it was the best thing to happen to us!
