Moonshadow, Buttercup, and Duke
March 1, 2010

Moonshadow was 24 when she was adopted in 2010, and she passed away earlier this year, but she was so lucky to be able to spend her final years with a wonderful adopter.  Pat also has two other older animals she adopted from Nevins Farm: Buttercup, a donkey (named Merry at the MSPCA), and Duke, a horse.

I want to share a little story with you.  Duke, who is the boy to get everyone running and playing, rarely stays still long.  But he spent (Moon)Shadow's last day constantly and quietly by her side.  He didn't leave her until 3 o'clock, when I loaded her in the trailer.  He seemed to sense something was wrong - e ven rubbed his head on her a few times.  He never lets another horse share his space in his shed, but as you can see in the picture, they were peacefully side by side.  A truly amazing behavior.  Animals are smarter than we humans ever give them credit for.  He knew.  We all miss her.
