Update on Red
January 20, 2013

Red & friends shortly after arriving at Nevins Farm

Red now spends his days frolicking and jumping, and being fussed over by his neighbors.

It's hard to imagine that it has been been nearly a year since Nevins Farm took in a herd of neglected Miniature horses and Shetland ponies.  It seems like yesterday and at the same time centuries ago that our paddocks were full of minis, all sadly underweight, infested with parasites, and completely unsocialized.  Our small staff was overwhelmed, but thanks to the wonderful horse community in this region, we made it through and found homes for each of them.

In the last few weeks, we've gotten updates on many of them, and one in particular made us grin.  Red was one of the first to be adopted from the group (in May 2012), and it looks like he has spent the months following in making himself quite at home.  The email we received included some photos, which made us eager to dig up photos from his first day here at Nevins Farm back in March.  Even though he was skinny and matted, he still had a big personality that stood out from the beginning.  Good to know that some things don't change.

Here's a few words from his adoptive mom Mary:

Red is doing great- the pics i've sent were taken at the house of the girls down the street. As I have told them- he has a heart issue- and cannot be lunged- ergo here you see him racing around without any line or anything! He is merely playing with his mini sister.
The two girls on our street were coming on a pretty regular basis - but of course school/ boys/ and weather all "hit" at about the same time.
Anywhoooo- they always take Reddie w/ Coco as they know he "needs" to come. Poor Red & Coco  suffered from, on more than one occasion, haircuts, baths and general torment!!!! (bows, another bath, etc etc)
They are, to say the least, much loved.

Red, we're wishing you a wonderful life.  You and all of your mini friends deserve it after such a tough start in life.  And thank you again to all who made Red's new life possible!
