Violet's New Home

Violet and Alyssa pose for a photo

Just over three years ago Violet came to Nevins Farm as an emergency surrender.  Suffering from an impaction colic, her first few days with us were nerve-wracking (read more about Violet’s arrival here).  But once her health had stabilized, we were able to begin the evaluation process that would ultimately help us to find her a home.

And for the past three years, Violet has been somewhat of a fixture at Nevins.  She had a foster home or two, and even an adoptive home which ultimately did not end up to be a perfect match.  Despite the multiple transitions, we’ve held out hope that Violet would indeed find that special someone for the rest of her life.

Just recently, those hopes were fulfilled, and Violet went home in early September.  You can imagine how thrilled we were to get an email this weekend from her adopter, singing her praises.  Here is what Alyssa had to say:

Karin and Nevin's Farm Volunteers,
I plan on giving you a call as well, but I wanted to give you an update on Violet along with some pictures.
I've had Violet for almost 3 weeks now, and I honestly couldn't be happier with her. She is such a sweetheart, and I can't imagine having found a horse who is a better fit for me in every way. Her first day home, we turned her out with our 7 other horses, and they all went a little nuts. There was a lot of running around, getting riled up, and picking fights with one another for the first few hours. After everything calmed down though, she seemed to settle right in. She's thoroughly enjoying the acres and acres of grass she gets to eat all day, LOVES playing with the goats when they're brought over to the fence, and has become quite smitten with one of our geldings, Mo. Living so close to the barn has allowed me to spend a ton of quality time with her before and after work, and I've been riding her 2 to 3 times a week for the past two weeks. She's getting used to riding in our field, and she and I are getting used to working with each other. Even after this short time, there's already a significant trust, respect and connection between us that I know will continue to grow. I can already tell that we are going to share the same bond that I shared with my Annie for 12 years, and I am so grateful to all of you guys for helping me find her. It's been almost a year and a half since I lost my horse, and I didn't even realize quite how much I missed being at the barn every day, until now.  I was told that she has been in and out of your barn for the past few years, so I feel compelled to state for a fact, that you won't be seeing her sweet face around the Nevins Farm stable anymore. I've found my girl, and she's home for good :)
I also want to say how happy I am with the whole 4 or 5 months that I was working with you to find a horse. You were all so great in helping to assess what I wanted in a horse and to find the ones who would make the best matches, patient with me and my incessant calls and emails, and you made every step of the adoption process so easy. You're all so great to volunteer your time to take great care of all your horses, and put each of them into great homes that are just right for them. My sister and I couldn't be happier with the new addition to our family, and I would gladly recommend you to anyone.
Thank you all so much. I'm sure you'll be receiving more updates on her in the future!

Thank you Alyssa!  We look forward to many more years of updates!
