Guided Tours

We offer guided tours to groups of various ages, from lower elementary students to senior citizens. Our staff and volunteers can tailor tours to meet the needs of individual groups.

What's included in the tour?  Tour guides share information with visitors about the history of the MSPCA and the Nevins Farm property, the programs offered on-site, as well as basic pet care tips, interesting animal facts, and suggestions for helping animals in our communities. Included is a tour of our turn-of-the-century barn and the Noble Family Animal Care and Adoption Center.  Visitors will be guided through a number of adoption rooms and areas, viewing our available rabbits, cats, dogs, barn birds, ruminants (goats and sheep), pigs, and horses.

When are tours offered and how long do they last?  Guided tours are available from September through May, Tuesday - Friday 12pm-5:00pm (last tour booked at 4:00pm). Guided tours last between 60 and 90 minutes. Please note that the barn is open 1-4pm.  Tours booked before 1pm or after 3:30pm will NOT include the barn; however, visitors will still be able to see the many farm facilities and outdoor animals (pigs, sheep, goats).  Tours should be scheduled several weeks in advance to assure tour guide availability.  Most tour groups are capped at 20 visitors, though exceptions can be made for larger groups given advance notice.

What if I can only visit on the weekend?  While we cannot offer guided tours during our weekend hours (12pm-4pm), we do have a very visitor-friendly facility and encourage small groups to visit any time we are open.  You may print our "Self-Guided Tour Packet" to bring with you to the adoption center, or you can pick up a copy at our Education Station for a small donation.  This packet will take you through the property one area at a time.  This is a great way to learn not only about the history of the MSPCA, but also about the animals we place for adoption.

Do you have special tour programs for Girl Scouts?  Yes, we have special tour programs for Girl Scouts who are working toward a special badge or service project.  Whether a Daisy, Brownie, Junior, or Cadette, we offer a fun program that teaches the importance of responsible animal care and supporting those who are less fortunate.  Scouts can even purchase a special MSPCA fun patch at the end of their visit!  Click here to learn more about these programs.

Is there a cost for the tour?  Because the MSPCA receives no state or federal funding, we depend on the generosity of our supporters to cover the cost of care for our animals. We request a $3 donation per person for our guided tours.

How do I schedule a tour?  Please contact our Education Department at the MSPCA at Nevins Farm by calling (978) 687-7453 x 6108 or emailing humaneeducation@mspca.org. If leaving a voicemail message, please include the number of attendants, the age group of the visitors, the requested date(s) and time(s), and a phone number and email where you can be reached.
