2014 Equine Safety & Ambulance Training

 

We are pleased to announce our 2014 schedule for Equine Safety & Ambulance Training classes, to be held at our Equine Center at the MSPCA at Nevins Farm in Methuen, MA. 

These classes are open to first responders, veterinarians, veterinary technicians, barn owners and other individuals who have a vested interest in learning how to move large animals safely and quickly.  Class size is limited to 40 people, to allow each attendee the opportunity to participate in hands-on sessions.

Courses are held at the Rogers Education & Training Room at the MSPCA at Nevins Farm, 400 Broadway, Methuen, MA on the dates below:

For Horse Owners (a one day workshop)           
This course is geared to individuals who already have a basic knowledge of horse and livestock body language and behavior.  This course will be especially helpful for horse owners and barn managers interested in establishing an equine emergency protocol in your barn or during transport.

• March 16
• December 14                    

One day course for Horse Owners will cover:
• the theory and proper use of the rescue equipment, including our innovative Rescue Glide, as well as equipment that might already be available to various first responder departments
• practical hands-on experience, conducting rescue scenarios using our training mannequin Lucky the horse

For First Responders (a two day workshop)          

• June 14-15
• October 4-5

Two day course for First Responders will cover:
• a basic knowledge of horse and livestock behavior and an insight into body language of the different species
• the theory and proper use of the rescue equipment, including our innovative Rescue Glide, as well as equipment that might already be available to various first responder departments

Courses run from 9am-4pm each day.  Participants are encouraged to arrive early, and dressed for outdoor weather, as appropriate.  Firefighters may also wish to bring turn-out gear, to simulate real-life rescue scenarios.  Lunch is not provided, however there are many nearby restaurants.

Attendees will receive a certificate of completion at the end of the course.  **For Firefighters** we are currently pursuing Continuing Education (CE) credits for this course.
