Why spay or neuter your pet?

  • There are nearly 8 million homeless cats and dogs brought to shelters each year in the United States, but only about 4 million families looking for an animal to adopt during the same time frame.  Spaying and neutering your animal is an easy way to do your part to help solve the overpopulation problem.
  • The procedure is done routinely and is one of the safest surgeries done on companion animals.
  • In addition to preventing unwanted litters, spaying and neutering your dog or cat can also help curb some behavior problems, including spraying, marking, aggression, and the desire to roam.
  • Spaying and neutering can help prevent certain illnesses, including mastitis and reproductive cancers.
  • There is no physical or psychological benefit to allowing your animal to have even just one litter before spaying her.  In fact, it is best to have your animal altered before reaching adolescence.
