Softball Tournament Benefits MSPCA
When it was nearing a year since the passing of Bob and Rose O’Neill’s beloved German Shepherd, Jack, the couple started thinking of ways to honor his memory…
Bob and Rose came up with the great idea of organizing a co-ed Softball Tournament, with the proceeds going to support the MSPCA-Angell. Bob and Rose went to work immediately - flyers and t-shirts were designed, a field was reserved, players registered, and before we knew it, the First Annual Jack O’Neill Co-Ed Softball Tournament was born!
At Pine Banks Park in Melrose on August 18th, about 24 players gathered on a gorgeous but windy morning to play ball. It was a wonderful day- drinks and food were provided for the teams and many spectators, including Libby, a rescue dog from Hurricane Katrina that has found a great new home in Massachusetts!
To date, the Tournament has raised over $700 for the MSPCA-Angell in honor of Jack’s memory, between registration fees and over 40 donations. The Society is so grateful to the O’Neill’s for thinking of such a unique way to honor the memory of their Jack and also celebrate the wonders of the human-animal bond. Stay tuned for next year!
