Methuen Medical Suite

generously gifted by the Carlee Charitable Trust

The animals surrendered to the MSPCA at Nevins Farm require varying degrees of medical attention and veterinary care.  Most are due for routine vaccines and a spay or neuter surgery, while others need more specialized care, including geriatric physicals, dental cleanings, and medical treatments for kennel cough or upper respiratory infections.  The MSPCA’s Medical Suite staff is available five days a week to meet the medical and health needs of these animals.

Our staff is comprised of three part-time veterinarians, two veterinary technicians, and several trained volunteers, all of whom play an integral role in the care of patients.  The animal care and adoption staff support these efforts by assisting in the administration of vaccines and medications.

The public frequently inquires about veterinary services available at the MSPCA at Nevins Farm.  Because of the high volume of animals surrendered to us, our staff must devote the majority of appointments to in-house patients.  This allows animals presenting medical problems to be assessed and treated soon after intake.  Because animals are vaccinated and sterilized right at the adoption center, they can become available for adoption and find their forever homes faster than if they were transported to an outside facility for veterinary care.

If your animal is in need of emergency medical care, contact your veterinarian as soon as possible.  If your vet’s office is closed, contact an emergency clinic.  Local 24-hour veterinary hospitals include Angell Animal Medical Center in Boston: (617) 522-7282 and Bulger Animal Hospital in North Andover: (978) 682-9905.

Several times a year, the MSPCA at Nevins Farm hosts veterinary programs for the community, to assist pet owners in obtaining routine medical care for their animals.

Special Medical Funds

When animals are brought to the MSPCA at Nevins Farm with a major illness or injury, their rehabilitation can be costly and time intensive.  To provide additional finances to treat these animals, the MSPCA developed two important funds to help defray the cost of expensive medical treatments to otherwise adoptable animals.  The “Angels for Animals Fund” allows the MSPCA staff to treat small animals, including cats, dogs, and rabbits, residing at the Noble Family Animal Care and Adoption Center.  “Ashton’s Hope Fund” provides medical care to MSPCA horses and farm animals currently being cared for at Nevins Farm.  Please consider contributing to these funds and help the MSPCA care for a growing number of surrendered animals in need of significant veterinary care.
