Meet Kiwi! This one eyed friend is looking for her next job after spending her first months at a farm.
This cat is part of our Working Cat Program! This program is for cats that are not well suited for an indoor-only type lifestyle but would thrive in environments with more space, a job, and/or less pressure from humans and other pets.
This cat originally came to us from the outdoors so we don’t know a lot about his past. While they are used to people being in somewhat close proximity to feed and care for them, these are not currently social cats but would make great ‘behind the scenes’ working cats! Interested adopters must have a safe, secure structure or barn for a working cat and be able to provide adequate time for acclimation.
If you are interested, please give us a call today!
If you would like to learn more about the Working Cat Program, or would like to fill out an application, please visit: www.mspca.org/barncat
I am in Foster becasue the shelter life is hard for me. Please ask about me and if I could be a good fit for your home.
I am a beautiful fluffy tortie! I can be sweet on my own terms when I am given time to warm up. When I am not seeking attention, I am a very independent, low-maintenance gal with good litter box manners!
I previously lived with young children, and I was pretty uncomfortable around them. I communicated my discomfort by scratching, so I am looking for a home without kids to keep my stress levels as low as possible!
I have a history of ingesting edible items. My previous owners stated that I had two obstructions when I was between the ages of 1 – 3 which required surgery to remove the items. I haven`t had any incidents of this since those times years ago, but my adopters should be mindful to keep anything that could cause an obstruction out of my reach.
I seem to have a sensitive stomach and have been vomiting several times a week. My adopters should follow up with their primary veterinarian as currently all medical is coming back as normal.
I am easily stressed/overwhelmed during transitions, and I am looking for an adopter who is willing to give me as much time as I need to settle in. This could be a couple of days or a couple of weeks. My success will be dependent upon how well my adopters are able to read and understand my body language. It is recommended that I be set up in my own space, an extra bedroom or bathroom, a space that no one will access unless feeding or cleaning. I should be left alone initially as I adjust. This space should include plenty of hiding places, ideally with access to vertical surfaces such as a cat tree or cat-proofed shelf, and easy access to a bed, litter box, food, and water. Gradually give me more access to the home only when I am confidently moving about my environment and I remain confident with relaxed body language when my adopter spends time with me. My previous adopters let the shelter know that I will growl, hiss, and scratch if pursued when I am hiding!!
I am looking for a VERY quiet, low-traffic home with a cat-savvy adopter with lots of patience! I was affectionate on my terms with my previous adult owners, but I have always been quite nervous with other people,, which I would show by hiding and hissing. I am not going to be a very social cat, and it will take me a long time to build a relationship with my new family, but if I am given the time and option to do so at my pace, I will make someone a great low-maintenance companion!
Meeting new people can be very overwhelming for me. It is possible I may only ever be comfortable in my small bubble. My adopters should be comfortable with a cat who may not ever want to expand my social circle. I should never be forced to interact with new people if my body language or behavior indicates that I am afraid, so when my adopters have visitors, I should be allowed to stay in a different space.
Compatibility:
Cats: No history – possibly
Dogs: No thank you!
Kids: No thank you!
The shelter is open Tuesday through Sunday from noon – 4:30 pm, with no appointment needed to meet available cats.
Meet Flint! This cat recently came to us, so we are still getting to know him, but he is looking for a quiet home for him to settle down. Flint would like to be your one and only pet. He could go home with older kids who are able to respect his body language cues and give him space if he’s asking for it.

Spirit cats are very shy with people, and live in your home but are rarely seen – hence their name. They are cats who coexist in your home, and sometimes may grant you the opportunity to touch them – or they may not. Despite being shy with people, spirit cats are usually great with other cats! They are used to living with many cats, and can make excellent companions for cats in your home. It’s not uncommon for a spirit cat to get used to one or two people over time, and those people will be allowed to touch them and they may even choose to hang out near you or sleep on your bed at night. They are a great choice for people with a quiet household, who want to make a difference for an individual cat. Patience and understanding are the best tools when welcoming a spirit cat into your home. It’s important to know that spirit cats won’t magically turn into a normal acting cat – what you see is what you get for a long time, maybe always.
They are a fine choice for situations where you don’t have a lot of time to devote to a pet as they don’t require a lot of attention from humans. They are not a good choice for a busy home, including those with small children. They have a history of living in and outdoors.
This shy kitten is ready to find a new home of their own! We are still getting to know them, but like most kittens, they will need a family to teach them all the kitten basics like socializing with people and playing with appropriate toys. They could likely go to a home with another cat who wants an annoying younger sibling to be a role model to.
This kitten has been diagnosed with a Chronic Upper Respiratory Infection. A Chronic Upper Respiratory Infection may flare up in times of stress, so it is best that an adopter have a good relationship with a veterinarian to help manage and treat this long term illness.

Milo is the king of relaxation and can’t wait to find a home where he can lounge his days away on a comfy couch. He doesn’t mind getting off his throne to greet you when you come home or welcome new visitors and is quick to give permission to pet his handsome face. In addition to naps and scritches, Milo loves snacks and will be sure to let you know if you are running late for meal time. Milo has recently been diagnosed with diabtetes and needs insulin injections twice a day, so a good relationship with a vet will be important for Milo!

Meet Gordon! Gordon is a special type of cat we lovingly call a Spirit cat! Spirit cats are very shy and prefer to spend time out of sight. New people and environments can be overwhelming at first and adopters should expect to see very little of Gordon as they are settling in. We often can’t predict how a spirit cat will be after they settle in – some become comfortable around their family and choose to spend time with them by sharing the same space or allowing some petting, while others continue to prefer to hide when there’s any commotion. Spirit cats generally prefer to spend their time around other cats and make an excellent kitty friend to a cat already in the home. Our staff can help prepare adopters to welcome a spirit cat into a quiet home, but patience and understanding will go a long way with Gordon.

I am a super handsome guy and I love to cuddle once I am comfortable in my surroundings! I would enjoy being an indoor/outdoor cat. My previous home reported that I would try to get out whenever I could, and I seemed to enjoy being outside, so we are looking for adopters for me who can provide a safe indoor/outdoor option.
I have had litter box issues, especially when another male cat was brought into the home. Staff and matchmakers have handouts and can provide advice on how to introduce me to my new home to ensure a successful transition.
Compatibility:
Cats: Possibly with an extremely slow introduction. I had a difficult introduction with a cat in my previous home.
Dogs: No history – possibly, if a mellow, cat-savvy dog. The fewer variables, the better for Tom!
Kids: Yes, older kids who can read cat body language and interact appropriately. Again, the fewer variables, the better for Tom!
