Physical Rehabilitation and Swimming
Initial Consultation
Whether your dog needs rehabilitation or health maintenance, every Angell Physical Rehabilitation relationship begins with an initial comprehensive evaluation. All clients interested in physical rehabilitation and/or swimming must have a referral form from your veterinarian prior to the first visit. Angell Physical Rehabilitation is happy to get the completed paperwork from your veterinarian on your behalf. Please have your veterinarian’s name and contact information handy when you contact us to set up your dog’s initial evaluation.
We will send you intake forms to help us better understand your dog’s condition and home routine. Please remember to bring the completed forms to your first appointment.
Course of Treatment
Once we have met your dog and completed the assessment, we will discuss what services are recommended, how long treatment may last, and the expected outcome of treatment. The number of visits and the type and cost of services can’t be accurately predicted until we have met with you and examined your dog. At the end of the initial consultation, we will work with you to determine a feasible plan.
What we Provide
Your dog must wear a life vest while in the pool, regardless of swimming ability. Life vests are provided.
We also provide towels, treats, and a wide variety of toys to help keep your dog safe, comfortable, and having fun while in the pool.
Flea and Tick Treatments
Flea and tick treatments or other topical ointments should be applied at least 24 hours in advance of any hydrotherapy appointment. Any topical applied within 24 hours will wash off in the pool. This will negate its effect, affect pool chemistry, irritate dogs’ eyes, and allow for ingestion.
Massage
For massage only, we do not require a veterinary referral. Your first canine massage appointment includes plenty of time to discuss your dog’s medical history and specific needs, likes, and dislikes. If your dog is receiving physical rehabilitation and/or swimming at Angell, your massage therapist will review your dog’s record and consult with physical therapy staff.
General Information
Directions, Parking, and Entry
Get directions to Angell’s Physical Rehabilitation, 293 Second Ave., Waltham, MA. The entrance to our Physical Rehabilitation service is at the rear of the building. Free parking is available.
Leash Policy
You must keep your dog on leash at all times within the facility. Even if your dog is comfortable with other animals, the dog with an appointment before or after yours may not be.
Prior to Arrival
Make time for your dog to relieve him or herself prior to your appointment. Angell PR offers space to the back left of the building, and bags and a trash barrel for proper disposal of solid waste. If your dog has dietary sensitivities or favorite treats, you may want to bring treats to your appointments. We typically use treats to encourage your dog’s attention and participation.
Cancellation Policy
Call Angell at least 24 hours in advance if you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment. Our schedule fills for weeks in advance, and your late cancellation or failure to show denies therapeutic services to another dog in need. Late cancellations and unexpected absences may incur a charge of the full appointment fee.
