Corporate Volunteer Program: Frequently Asked Questions

Have questions about our Corporate Volunteer Program? Check out some of our most common questions:

Can we interact with animals while we are volunteering?

Most corporate volunteer experiences will focus on support chores rather than direct animal handling such as dog walking. We will make every effort to incorporate a meet & greet session with an adoptable animal during your volunteer event.

Why is a donation requested for companies to volunteer?

Corporate volunteer groups are asked to make a donation to offset costs of coordinating and executing the day and support our mission and programs. We encourage you to be in touch if cost is prohibitive. Email us at ssilvia@mspca.org.

Can we choose our volunteer event location?

Yes! You can choose to volunteer at any of our three adoption centers (Boston, Cape Cod, Methuen) or at Angell West in Waltham. Group size, project availability, and seasonality all may play a factor in accommodating your preferred location. Please let us know if your group can be flexible.

Can you provide a tour or educational presentation before or after our volunteer event?

Yes! In many cases, our corporate volunteer groups choose to incorporate an educational presentation or tour at the beginning or end of their volunteer day. Please let us know if this is something you would like to incorporate.

Do you have a space for our group to meet before or after our volunteer event for lunch or a business meeting?

Generally, yes. This will vary according to the location, time of year, and size of your group. Please let us know during your application process.

Will there be someone to lead our group for the project?

Yes! We’ll assign a staff or volunteer liaison to your group. The liaison will get you started on your project and will check in with you periodically during your volunteer event.

What should we wear?

All corporate volunteers should come prepared to work hard and expect to get dirty! Wear jeans, sturdy close-toed foot wear, and appropriate all-weather outdoor clothing for outdoor projects.

Do we need to sign waivers?

All corporate volunteers must sign a one-day volunteer contract prior to the start of your volunteer event.

Are volunteer events rain or shine?

Many of our corporate volunteer projects happen outside. In the event if inclement weather, we will work with you to determine what is best for your group. Most activities can take place rain-or-shine, we can try to schedule a new date, or we can try to determine an alternate project for the day.

Can we re-schedule our volunteer event?

While many of our projects are time-sensitive, if you find that you need to re-schedule your volunteer event at the last minute, we will make every effort to reschedule. However, we may need to assign a different project to your team.

Are kids allowed to volunteer during our corporate volunteer event?

Unfortunately, we have few opportunities for children to volunteer with us. If your parent, school, or student group would like to know more, please visit our Humane Education site here.

Do you offer refreshments or can you recommend a local caterer?

We ask that all volunteers bring re-usable water bottles for their day of service, and that any additional food and refreshments be provided by the corporate host. You are welcome to bring coffee or other snacks as needed, or we can make recommendations for local caterers based on your group size and needs.

Do we need to bring supplies or special equipment?

Depending on your assigned project, your team members may need to bring some supplies, including but not limited to work gloves, paint brushes, etc. Your volunteer event coordinator will advise you about any specific needs.

When can we volunteer?

We prefer to plan volunteer days at least 60 days in advance. We welcome a conversation with you, and will do our best to accommodate volunteer groups within this 60-day window.
