Nevins Farm Volunteer Marketing Assistant

The Volunteer Marketing Assistant will provide support to the MSPCA Adoption Centers’ Development & Marketing Department. This individual is highly creative, motivated, and driven; able to conceptualize and produce creative campaigns, through print and digital platforms. The intern will:

  • Assist in content development for social media channels, including photography and video as well as written content. This requires an understanding of basic animal body language and safe humane handling skills for a variety of species.
  • Create graphics and design layouts in keeping with the MSPCA brand for print communications, email newsletters, digital platforms.
  • Assist with periodic mailings.
  • Liaise with donors, local businesses, volunteers, and other constituents under the direction of the Development & Marketing Department.
  • Support fundraising events with pre-event planning, in-person hands-on work, post-event wrap-up.
  • The Volunteer Marketing Assistant will demonstrate and embrace the organizational values of Compassion, Integrity, Collaboration, Excellence, Service and Positivity in carrying out day to day tasks as well as in interactions with others.

Responsibilities

  • Photography and video of animals in care
  • Written descriptions of adoptable animals, content development for social media channels and web, coordinating print and email mailings, corporate relations, etc.
  • Research marketing trends for animal welfare organizations, npos, and other categories as needed.
  • Adhere to all MSPCA-Angell brand guidelines.
  • Provide quality and meaningful customer service to the general public at all times.
  • Assist in event production.
  • Participate in training as required for role.

Physical requirements

  • Able to sit and work at a computer for extended periods of time.
  • Able to sustain moderate to heavy activity with variable amounts of standing, walking, bending, reaching and stooping.
  • Able to lift, push, pull or carry objects and/or animals weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Able to perform these duties in variant temperatures and elements including extreme heat, extreme cold and inclement weather
  • Must be able to manage any animal or hay-related allergies with medication

Emotional and Mental requirements

  • Able to multitask and complete tasks in a faced paced, high stress environment
  • Able to maintain composure during challenging and/or emotionally charged situations
  • Able to work with staff, fellow volunteers, and clients in an empathetic and supportive manner
  • Have the ability to keep information confidential.

Required Skills & Attributes

  • Proficient in Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, and/or other common design and video applications
  • Proficient in social media channels such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter
  • Proficient command of English grammar and spelling. Working knowledge of Spanish or other languages a plus!
  • Advanced photography and video skills
  • Ability to work well and communicate effectively with the public, staff, and fellow volunteers
  • Ability to be judgment free in challenging situations
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize in a fast paced, high stress environment.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team, as necessary.
  • Ability to pass a criminal history check

Education 

  • Must have completed first year of undergraduate education.

Experience

  • Some animal experience helpful but not necessary.

Other

  • Reliable transportation is required. Applicants must have a valid driver’s license and their own personal vehicle. Public transportation is not accessible from the MSPCA at Nevins Farm.

Requirements:

  • Attendance at orientation and on-the-job training

Time Commitment:

  • Ideal commitment desired is 8 hours per week
  • Minimum duration of 12 weeks.
