Green to Great: a 90 Day Equine Rescue Revamp!

Green to Great: a 90 Day Equine Rescue Revamp!

4 Horses, 4 Trainers, 90 days of Training.

Follow our journey as we take four rescue horses from the MSPCA at Nevins Farm and the New Hampshire SPCA from “green to great”!

Beginning February 1 , each horse will be partnered with a professional trainer to ‘learn the ropes’ of being a horse. Trainers and their support teams will have 90 days to ready the horse for adoption, including such skillsets as ground manners, essential groundwork, and starting under saddle (a specific training plan for each horse will be developed based on the horse’s needs).  You can follow each horse + trainer team on our Facebook event:

The 90 day event will culminate in an equine showcase on May 4, featuring these and other adoptable horses from the MSPCA and NHSPCA.

Attend our Equine Showcase Saturday May 4!

We’ll be showing off our progress with an Equine Showcase on Saturday May 4 from 12-2pm.  Join us in the Pingree Riding Arena at Nevins Farm where you’ll be able to see these horses and other adoptable horses strut their stuff and show off their talents and true potential.

Meet the Horses and Trainers

Demi, training with Deanna Kravetz of Over the Oxer Equestrian

Demi is a big-boned Quarter horse mare who loves to be adored and doted upon. She is well mannered, level headed, easy to handle, and great for the vet and farrier.

Available for adoption through the NHSPCA

About Deanna:

Deanna Kravetz is an active rider and trainer in the New England hunter/jumper community. She has had a long history of love and appreciation for horses beginning riding at the early age of 4 years old. Upon graduation from college, Deanna had the pleasure of working both at home and ringside at shows for such trainers as Olana Laffey at Evenstride Ltd, Kristen Bumpus at Arrowhead Farms and Jessica Hunt at Senator Bell Farm. After much tutelage, Deanna began Over the Oxer Equestrian in 2009, offering lessons, training, boarding, summer camps and an IEA program.

Dixie, training with Jacquelyne Toher of Elegante Performance Horses

Dixie is a 5 year old jet black Lippitt morgan mare who wants to be somebody’s project! She is about 13.3 hands, so is looking for a confident small adult or teenager who has experience working with green horses and wants a clean-slate. She’s a cute mover and could go in any direction!

Available for adoption through the MSPCA at Nevins Farm

About Jacquelyne:

Jacquelyne was born into the equestrian life growing up on her family farm in Carlisle Ma. She has competed professionally, managed several high performance barns, and was chosen as a trainer to participate in the Extreme Mustang Makeover.  Jacquelyne has been privileged to work with countless horses, re- schooling horses off the track, putting young horses under saddle, all the way to conditioning Grand Prix horses. She specializes in working with horses with behavioral issues.

Honey, training with Callie O’Connell of Bear Spot Farm

Honey is 7 year old registered Morgan mare, about 15hh . She is a really nice uphill mover with a natural self-carriage, but has an old shoulder injury that will limit her to pleasure only (walk-trot-canter, no jumping or showing).

Available for adoption through the MSPCA at Nevins Farm

About Callie:

Callie O’Connell is a 20 year old dressage rider from Wilmington, MA. She has been a working student for Jane Karol at Bear Spot Farm for almost 5 years, and is a student at MassArt. She is a USDF bronze and silver medalist. Horses and dressage are a huge part of her life and she is really excited for the opportunity to work with and train Honey!

Toby, training with Jennifer Parker of Move Free Equine, LLC

Toby is a young, stocky buckskin gelding who is very charismatic and outgoing – and he loves a tasty treat! He has been ridden western by adults and children but is still green and will need a confident handler to develop his true potential.

Available for adoption through the NHSPCA

About Jennifer:

Jennifer has an eclectic background in dressage, eventing, trail riding, groundwork, carriage driving, and bareback bridleless riding. She specializes in green horses and horses with behavioral problems, holding a firm belief that listening to the horse and forming an emotional connection is the core of training and riding.
