Home for the Holidays: Fee Waived Adoptathon for Harder to Place Cats

Time: By Appointment   |   Location: All MSPCA Adoption Centers (Boston, Methuen, Cape Cod) and Northeast Animal Shelter

Seeking Super Hero Adopters!

Calling All Super Heroes: our homeless cats need YOU! Seeking Wonder Women and Super Men to open their hearts to the elderly, the shy, the feisty and the overlooked!

The MSPCA is launching “Home for the Holidays,” a two-day fee-waived adoptathon to be held Saturday Dec 4 and Sunday Dec 5 for adoptable cats whose age, medical needs, personalities or habits have hampered their ability to find a home of their own.  The adoption fees for these harder to place cats will be waived for the event, thanks to the generosity of the Catvocates and private donors who have subsidized the adoption fees.

Advance registration for the Fee-Waived Adoptathon event is required. There are limited spaces available each day, so don’t delay – register soon!

Before you register:

  • Review our How to Adopt page so you know what to expect.
  • View our Adoption Search page to see some of the cats who will be available for fee-waived adoptions.
  • We routinely plan for same-day adoptions, so be prepared for your new feline friend to leave with you on the same day as your visit.
  • Need supplies such as food, toys, carriers, etc? We carry most of the essentials right here in our adoption center.
  • There is no cost to register for the event. Your advance registration secures you a spot on your selected day, however we cannot guarantee that your preferred animal will be available. We will do our best to help you find the right match!
  • Please be prepared for a wait! We anticipate a lot of interest in the available cats, so there may be a wait period at various points during your visit. Expect to spend from 1-2 hours during your visit.
  • Masks and social distancing are still required to visit the MSPCA, whether or not you are vaccinated. Thank you for helping to keep everyone safe!

What is a Hard to Place Cat?

Cats who will be available at no-fee for the adoptathon are those for whom we have struggled to find the right home. Often these are cats whose previous home environment did not match the needs of the individual, underlining why the right home and the right hero adopter is so critical. Our shier cats will be looking for a quiet, steady super hero while our feisty or energetic cats will be looking for the super hero who can keep them entertained and active. And our senior cats or those with medical needs will be looking for a special super hero willing to love them in their retirement years or take on their extra care.

The MSPCA Adoption Center staff will work with potential adopters to identify good matches, so that ultimately both animal and adopter will be set up for success.  Cats deemed challenging in the shelter environment can make the perfect companion when placed in a home that provides the resources that they need.
