Meet Caramel

Caramel:

I am a super cute older lady! I am very sweet with my person, and I have great litter box manners!

I am looking for a VERY quiet, low-traffic home with lots of patient and cat-savvy adopters! We do not have a lot of clear details about my life prior to arriving at the shelter. My previous owner moved into a nursing home with me, and I struggled with the transition from a quiet, single-adult home to a busier setting. It will take me a long time to build a relationship with my new family, but if I am given the time and option to do so at my pace, I will make someone a great low-maintenance companion!

My adopter should be extremely cat-savvy. Here at the shelter I have gone from being hissy and growly to becoming very flirty and sweet, with much more interest in some amount of touch. My adopter should know to give me lots of space while transitioning into my new home, and only engage with me when my body language is clearly stating I am interested in interacting.

I can get conflicted and overstimulated with lots of touch. I will benefit from cat-savvy adopters prepared to give me attention on my own terms, and know to back off if my body language is signaling that I have had enough!

I require sedation for vet care here at the shelter, and it is recommended that my adopter have a relationship with a Fear-Free Certified veterinarian to help come up with a handling plan that will reduce stress, and keep everyone safe.

Compatibility:
Cats: No thank you!
Dogs: No thank you!
Kids: Teens and older please!

The shelter is open Tuesday through Sunday from noon – 4:30 pm, with no appointment needed to meet available cats.
