MSPCA-Angell West Launches Dermatology Service

BOSTON and Waltham, Mass. April 25, 2014 – The MSPCA-Angell today announced the addition of dermatology to its growing list of services available to pet patients who visit its twenty-four-hour emergency and specialty hospital in Waltham, MSPCA-Angell West.  The new service will operate alongside other specialty offerings already up and running in Waltham, including internal medicine, avian and exotics care, surgery, cardiology and emergency & critical care.

MSPCA-Angell West, which opened in February, will see dermatology patients via appointments with Dr. Meghan Umstead, who treats patients in both Boston and Waltham.

Clients looking to book an appointment with Dr. Umstead can call 617-524-5733 or click here to read more about the appointment-booking process.

Dr. Umstead, whose specialty areas include treatment of chronic allergies, ear, autoimmune and skin disease and other issues that manifest within the skin, looks forward to expanding her practice in Waltham.  “We’ve seen an outpouring of support for the [Waltham] hospital in just the last three months, and it’s very satisfying to be able to announce to both clients and referring veterinarians that we now have dermatology on offer—a large and rapidly growing service.”

The dermatology service launches just as springtime allergies threaten to make life miserable for pets.  Dogs and cats with allergies may scratch, chew, lick their paws, rub their face or have recurrent ear infections.  Environmental allergies—common in the spring—affect our pets’ skin and sometimes require treatment from veterinary dermatologists.

MSPCA-Angell West does not offer general medicine services as dozens of general practice veterinarians in the area already offer excellent wellness coverage.
