MSPCA Cape Cod Adoption Assistant

Description:

This is an opportunity for people who are excited to engage with the public. Adoption Assistant volunteers should have attention to detail, animal handling experience, strong customer service skills, be adaptable to the changing needs of the adoption center, and be excited to be a representative of the MSPCA and our programs. Adoption Assistant volunteers will work alongside adoption staff to create an efficient adoption experience during open adoption hours.

Responsibilities:

  • Photocopying, printing, and other administrative tasks as needed by staff during adoption hours
  • Place cats and small animals in carriers once adopted
  • Carry animals in carriers to adopters
  • Gather retail items as needed for adopters
  • Depending on past animal experience, assist with introducing small animals such as rabbits and guinea pigs to potential adopters
  • Volunteers who demonstrate success may be trained to assist with completion of small animal and cat adoptions

Qualities/Skills:

  • Exceptional customer service skills
  • Ability to work independently and with other volunteers and staff
  • Computer proficiency
  • Previous animal handling experience with cats, rabbits, guinea pigs, rats, or other small animals is required. Please detail in application.
  • Willingness to handle a wide variety of animals
  • Being bilingual in English and Spanish is a plus!

Requirements:

  • Attendance at a volunteer orientation
  • Completion of Fear Free Certification one month after completing orientation
  • On-the-job training
  • A weekly 3 hour shift on a set day and time
  • Six month commitment

Available Shifts:

  • Wednesday: 1 – 4PM
  • Saturday: 1 – 4PM
  • Sunday: 1 – 4PM
    • This position is not available on Mondays as we are closed to the public
