Summer 2024 Operations Assistant Volunteer Intern – Methuen

Description:

This is an opportunity for individuals to support our programs and staff by assisting with daily operations. Operations Assistant volunteer interns should have an attention to detail, work well within a team, be capable of completing inventory and other projects independently, and be adaptable to the changing needs of the adoption center and staff.

Responsibilities:

  • Inventory of food and other items.
  • Fulfilling online orders.
  • Opening and correctly stocking deliveries.
  • Assisting with display of items for sale in our retail area.
  • Picking up supplies from area businesses.
  • Cleaning, washing floors, emptying trash.
  • Sorting donations.
  • Miscellaneous projects as requested by the Shelter Operations Supervisor.

 

Qualities/Skills:

  • Ability to work independently and with other volunteers and staff.
  • Exceptional computer literacy.
  • Physical capacity to repetitively lift up to 40lbs, bend, kneel, climb ladders, and remain active the entirety of a 3 hour shift.

 

Experience and Education Requirements:

  • Completion of sophomore year of high school or higher by June 2024.
  • Applicants must turn 16 by June 15th, 2024. Internship cannot begin until the volunteer’s 16th birthday has occurred, as our minimum volunteer age is 16.
  • Some animal experience required.

Other Requirements:

  • Applicants must have a valid driver’s license and their own personal vehicle.
  • Successful completion of a background check for those 18+.
  • Attendance at a virtual orientation prior to your start date.
  • On-the-job training.
  • Volunteers age 16 and 17 must be able to obtain a MA Youth employment permit for this volunteer role, prior to their volunteer start date. Details can be found at https://www.mass.gov/service-details/youth-employment-permit-information .
  • Within one week of submitting an application, a cover letter and the contact information of two references must be submitted to nevinsvolunteer@mspca.org. References cannot be family members. Time Commitment:

  • Two weekly 4 hour shifts on a set day and time, weekdays. No weekends are available for this role.
  • Duration must be a minimum of 7 weeks during the period of June-August, starting no later than June 30th.
