When Sophie first arrived at the MSPCA-Angell Boston Animal Care and Adoption Center in May 2022, it was clear that she had endured a lot in her lifetime. A 4-year-old pit bull was severely emaciated, and her veterinary exam revealed that she had diarrhea, anemia, a fractured tooth, and a thin coat. Neighbors of her former owner had complained that they could hear her being hit and crying in pain. But thanks to the quick action and collaboration of the MSPCA-Angell Law Enforcement Department and the Agawam Police and Animal Control, Sophie was surrendered to the MSPCA-Angell's care to start her emotional and physical healing.
Since then, staff and volunteers in the Boston Animal Care and Adoption Center have focused on improving her health and pampering her with lots of love. Despite her past, Sophie has a silly and engaging personality. She loves being around people, and the staff and volunteers are happy to oblige her with plenty of daily walks and cuddle time. Sophie has even had trips away from the adoption center, including a professional photo shoot with pet photographer Kaylee Greer, who readily captured Sophie’s spirit and strength. With her health restored, the staff now focuses on finding an adoptive family that can help Sophie learn new behavior skills and ensure that her future is bright.
