Twelve-week-old kitten Danny Phantom jumped out the window to safety early one July morning as his Hyannis home became engulfed in flames.
Despite firefighters rescuing some of the building’s tenants from the fire, Danny Phantom’s guardian sadly passed away. With no known relatives or family to care for Danny and his mother, Princess Augusta, two surviving neighbors rushed the cat and kitten to the MSPCA-Angell: Cape Cod adoption center when they noticed Danny was limping and in pain.
After being examined by the MSPCA-Angell: Cape Cod veterinary team, Princess Augusta was deemed healthy and ready for adoption. She quickly found a loving home. However, it was clear that Danny’s hip joint was dislocated. To help treat his hip pain and restore mobility, he required a specialized surgery called a femoral head ostectomy.
Dr. Michelle Jenssen, Lead Shelter Veterinarian at the MSPCA-Angell Clinic: Cape Cod, successfully performed the surgical procedure, which removed the head and neck of Danny’s femur to eliminate the bone-on-bone contact of his hip. Little Danny Phantom even got to go home with one of the staff veterinarians for the weekend for some extra TLC while he recovered. And since he’s so resilient, he could already bear weight on his leg when he returned to the adoption center after the weekend.
Luckily, the small but mighty Danny Phantom continued to grow stronger and stronger with every day. And very soon after, Danny was on his way home to his new adoptive family!
