After Edmarie’s cat Diamond gave birth, she reached out to Alison, the Community Outreach Coordinator at the MSPCA-Angell: Nevins Farm, for guidance on caring for kittens — and information about getting Diamond spayed.
Unfortunately, just days after reaching out, Diamond became suddenly and inexplicably ill, and despite a trip to an emergency clinic, she passed away, leaving five 3-week-old kittens behind. Edmarie was devastated but knew she needed to focus on caring for the kittens.
With Alison providing supplies and emotional support, Edmarie gave round-the-clock care for the kittens. Despite Edmarie’s dedication, the babies struggled to adjust to life without their mom. Unfortunately, even with assistance from a foster home experienced with bottle feeding, one kitten passed away. Heartbroken, Edmarie debated whether she could care for the remaining kittens as they continued to struggle. Still, she loved them dearly and wanted them to be together as a family.
As the kittens grow and develop into healthy, happy adult cats, Edmarie frequently checks in with Alison, often by sending her the latest TikTok video starring the four newest members of her family. The kittens recently received their vaccines and were spayed and neutered at the MSPCA-Angell Clinic at Nevins Farm. “Alison and the MSPCA Community Outreach Program have done so much for my family and me,” Edmarie said. “It’s honestly hard to find the right words. She’s been so helpful and supported me through a difficult time.”
