Baguette Gets the Job Done

The MSPCA's Working Cat Program Finds Experienced 'Farm Hand' a Home and Job

While most cats can easily live as indoor house pets, some cats may be unable to safely live fully indoors. There are many reasons why some cats prefer to live outside. Sometimes, the cats are under-socialized and prefer to distance themselves from their owners. Other times, they may have inappropriate litter box habits or other behaviors that keep them from enjoying an indoor-only lifestyle.

This was the case with Baguette, a handsome young cat who struggled to maintain good litter box habits in the home. Cats like Baguette are candidates for the MSPCA-Angell's Working Cat Program. These cats thrive in environments with more space, a job, and less pressure from humans and other pets. And after a full medical evaluation, our MSPCA-Angell Boston Adoption Center staff began exploring alternative placements for Baguette.

Fortunately, Emily just happened to be searching for a cat willing to take on pest control duties at her farm, and Baguette was happy to apply for the job! These days, he spends his time free-ranging the farm, supervising barn chores, and following Emily for daily long walks checking the property. Emily reports he is the best barn “dog” she could ask for, adding, “At night, he sleeps safe and sound in the garage in his heated cat house. He is friendly, sweet (and spicy!), and an excellent mouse watcher and sparrow chaser,” she said. “His GPS tracker clocks him at two to four miles a day! We absolutely adore him and couldn't be happier he's landed here.”
