She Ate What?! Kitten Gets Life-Saving Surgery at MSPCA-Angell Clinic

Bella, a 10-month-old orange kitten, sitting on the stairs

After years of begging from her 10-year-old daughter, Cassie decided it was time to add a kitten to their family. They recently lost a family member, which took a toll on everyone. But with the help of Bella, a 10-month-old stray kitten that frequented the neighborhood, they could cope a little better. Bella was now part of the family!

One day Bella began vomiting, and Cassie became concerned when it continued into the next day. Bella’s veterinarian recommended an ultrasound, and imaging showed Bella had an obstruction and would require costly surgery to remove the foreign object.

“I did not have that money,” Cassie recalled. “I was bawling. It had been almost three days, and I didn’t know how much longer she’d have.” Cassie called Bella’s vet again, who suggested contacting other surgical veterinary clinics offering low-cost options.

Cassie’s research led her to the MSPCA-Angell Clinic: Cape Cod in Centerville, MA. The clinic team returned her call within minutes and scheduled Bella’s surgery for the same day. Dr. Michelle Jenssen performed the surgery and removed a plastic Nerf dart belonging to Cassie’s son.

Now fully healed, Bella is happy and back to being her playful self. Cassie is forever grateful for the MSPCA-Angell Clinic. “If it weren’t for them, I probably would’ve had to put her down. They saved Bella’s life.”
