Humane Education Programs at Nevins Farm

Humane education helps foster compassion, responsibility, and respect toward animals, each other, and the environment; at the MSPCA, this is a high priority for us!  Humane Education Programs for Kids (individuals, groups, schools, clubs etc.):

School Break Program is a great way for kids to care for and learn about our animals during their school vacation weeks! ages 6 – 15

Little Bookworms Story Time is the perfect program for infants through pre-k children. Offered on Friday mornings, all little ones are welcome! infants though pre-K

Nevins Farm Reading Program: Accompanied by a parent or guardian, children will read out loud to an adoring canine, feline, or even rabbit audience in this fun family event. grades 1-4

Birthday Parties: You can celebrate your child’s birthday at the MSPCA!  100% of proceeds benefit the thousands of animals we care for each year. ages 5-12

Summer Camp is one of our most popular programs — and has been an integral part of our humane education department for more than 20 years! grades 2-9 

Educational Visits Our staff can offer a presentation to your local school, after school program, or camp to teach students about the importance of caring for animals responsibly. all grades

Self-Guided Tours – Perfect for families, clubs, or scouts who would like to visit our adoption center and learn more about our animals all ages

Humane Education Field Trips – NEW! A great opportunity for schools, clubs, or scouts who want to learn more about animals and visit our adoption center grades K – high school 

 

Volunteer Opportunities for Kids Under the Age of 16 :

If your child is 16 or older and looking to volunteer at Nevins Farm, please click here to visit our main volunteer page.

Family Service Day If you’re age 7-11, you can come volunteer with a parent at one of our Family Service Days! ages 7 – 11

Junior Volunteer Program This opportunity for teens is offered on Thursday and Thursday nights in the small animal shelter from 3:00-5:00, and on select Saturdays in the barn from 9-11am. Advanced registration is required. ages 11 – 15

Summer Camp Junior Counselor This volunteer position requires a 2 week commitment during the summer helping with our very popular camp! teens (MUST be 15 prior to the start of camp)

Host a Bake Sale or Lemonade Stand at Nevins Farm This is a perfect way for individuals or small groups to enjoy a weekend day at Nevins Farm, raising money to support our animals medical needs. all ages

 

Free Resources for Teachers, Adults, and Kids:

Resources for Teachers Are you a school teacher looking to integrate humane education into your classroom lesson plans? Our staff can help develop lessons that address humane issues that are both age-appropriate and aligned to MA or NH state curriculum frameworks. adults

Lending Library Our new lending library of humane education materials, including dissection and chick hatching alternatives, is available to local educators and students! Items are free to borrow for several weeks at a time, and include software programs, models, books, and videos. teens and adults

Education Pages for Kids and Adults are available, too.  Kids can learn about careers with animals, suggested reading, and animal trivia, and download original coloring pages!  Adults can learn about animal overpopulation, teaching kids to be safe with animals, and how to live peacefully with local wildlife. all ages
