Dogs and cats, just like people, may require a blood transfusion to treat a variety of injuries and illnesses, such as severe trauma, autoimmune diseases, rodenticide poisoning, and more.
Your pet could help save lives by donating blood to help these animals recover and be reunited with their family.
Donor Requirements
Dogs
- 1–7 years of age
- Up to date on rabies and distemper vaccines (RV, DHPP)
- Negative for heartworm and tick-borne diseases
- Generally well-behaved for vet visits
- Weigh at least 35 pounds
- Generally healthy, not on any daily medications
- Normal blood values upon screening
Cats
- Indoor cats only
- 1–8 years of age
- Up to date on rabies and distemper vaccines (RV, FVRCP)
- Negative for heartworm and feline viruses (FeLV, FIV)
- Generally well-behaved for vet visits
- Weigh at least 9 pounds
- Generally healthy, not on any daily medications
- Normal blood values upon screening
As a Thank You
For their service and for being our heroes, our blood donors will receive a FREE annual health screening and a gift with each donation.
And if your donor pet ever requires a blood transfusion, they will receive an equal number of free transfusions each time they donate.

To get started, email us at AngellBloodBank@mspca.org. Provide your pet’s name, age, vaccine status/history, most recent weight, and a photo of their happy face.
