As an animal advocate, the most impactful thing you can do is to meet with your legislators, either remotely or in person! Learn who represents you. If you cannot meet with your elected officials, please help by taking action another way. See below for ways to help on specific issues, as well how to become more involved generally.

Join the MSPCA Community Advocacy Leader (C.A.L.) volunteer program and help drive meaningful change for animals across the Commonwealth. As a C.A.L., you’ll play a vital role in advancing state and local legislation that promotes animal welfare.
The 2-year legislative session began on January 1, 2025. Legislators had until January 17, 2025 to meet the filing deadline. Around 6,800 bills were filed at the beginning of the legislative session; usually, another couple of thousand are filed late. Check back for updates as bills move through the legislative cycle.
The first step when using any social media platform is to follow your elected officials! Legislators will often post information about the campaigns and bills they are focusing on, so following their posts is a good way to stay in the loop.
Both Opinion-Editorials (Op-eds) and Letters to the Editor (LTEs) in newspapers and other media outlets are effective and powerful ways for animal advocates to educate both the public and policy makers on animal protection issues.
