Boston Transport Volunteer

Description:

This is a great opportunity for volunteers who enjoy driving, have flexibility in their schedule and are able to be available on short notice. Transport volunteers assist with transports of animals, supplies, and other items between MSPCA locations and occasionally outside organizations. Qualified volunteers will learn how to drive our vans. This is a hands-off role with animals.

Responsibilities:

Transport animals, supplies, and other items between MSPCA locations (Boston, Salem, Methuen, Cape Cod), airports, other animal welfare organizations, and wildlife rescues/rehabbers as needed
Obey all MSPCA-Angell guidelines and traffic laws during transports
Drive and assist in maintaining cleanliness and organization of shelter transport vehicles
Regularly communicate with MSPCA-Angell contacts about transports
Ensure any necessary accompanying animal paperwork and supplies are brought to the correct location

Necessary Skills:

Experience driving vans, RVs, busses, or other large vehicles
Professional driving experience a plus!
Reliable and punctual
Comfort handling crated animals
Able to lift, push, pull or carry objects weighing up to 50 lbs. repeatedly
Comfortable working independently as well as with others
Strong judgement calls and safety-oriented mindset
This role requires frequent verbal and written communication and as such, applicants should be highly proficient in English
Proficiency in using a computer without assistance and learning new programs. All volunteers digitally log hours and use an online scheduling function.
Flexible weekday availability a huge plus!

Requirements:

Must be 21+ and have a valid, current driver’s license
Must pass a Massachusetts CORI check and an annual driving record check
A minimum commitment of six months
Attendance at orientation and on-the-job training, including learning how to drive our vans
Flexible availability! We are currently prioritizing applicants with weekday availability to assist with the transport of supplies between Nevins Farm in Methuen, MA and Boston
We are also prioritizing applicants who have weekday morning availability to assist with deliveries of pet food to food pantries
- Specifically, Friday mornings from Jamaica Plain to Chelsea, MA
