Clinic Discharge Volunteer

Description:

This role is an excellent opportunity for those who enjoy interacting with the public. The Boston Community Clinic offers low-cost spay/neuter of cats and dogs to financially qualified clients. Volunteers in this role will help clinic staff with providing discharge instructions for pets who have been spayed/neutered. There may be some dog handling and handling of cats inside their carriers.

Responsibilities:

Greet clients and explain discharge instructions, post-operative care and medications
Bring pets out to their owners
Assemble patient medical cards for future appointments
Build e-collars as needed
Other tasks as assigned (e.g. taking down phone messages, filing, etc.)

Necessary Skills:

Exemplary customer service and communication skills (Spanish-speaking a plus!)
Ability to interact with the public with an empathetic, non-judgmental approach
Able to work independently and collaboratively with staff members and other volunteers
Some experience with animal handling
Ability to meet the physical requirements of this role, which include variable amounts of standing, walking, bending, reaching and stooping among other actions
This role requires frequent verbal and written communication and as such, applicants should be highly proficient in English
Proficiency in using a computer without assistance and learning new programs. All volunteers digitally log hours and use an online scheduling function.

Requirements

A minimum commitment of six months
A weekly shift on a set day and time
Attendance at orientation and on-the-job training
Applicants should be 18 years or older

Available Shifts

2:30pm-4:00pm – Tuesday or Thursday
Volunteers commit to one shift weekly
