Community Outreach Pop-up Volunteer

At the core of the MSPCA is the belief that families and pets belong together. While our adoption programs work to bring people and pets together, our Community Outreach programs work to keep families and pets together.

We strive to achieve this goal by offering affordable and accessible animal care resources to families who need them. We are looking for volunteers whose values align with this mission to attend local food pantry pop-ups with our Community Outreach team and help distribute food and other resources to community members.

Responsibilities

  • Help prepare for pet food pop-ups by loading the Community Outreach van with pet food and supplies and logging the amount of food and supplies we bring
  • Join the Community Outreach team at pop-ups in the Dorchester and Roxbury communities and distribute food and supplies to clients
  • Interact and engage with clients in a friendly, non-judgmental way that fosters building a relationship with the MSPCA
  • Collect information from clients interested in our programs

Necessary Skills:

  • Impeccable communication and customer service skills
  • Reliability and punctuality are key for this role!
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to approach situations regarding pets empathetically and without judgement
  • Age 18+
  • A member of the Dorchester/Roxbury/JP community preferred, but not required!

 Requirements:

  • A minimum commitment of six months
  • A weekly shift on a set day and time
  • Attendance at orientation and on-the-job training
  • Must be 18+
  • Must have own transportation to MSPCA Boston and to pop-up sites in Roxbury and Dorchester

Available Shifts: 

  • Tuesdays or Thursdays, 12pm-1pm, or Fridays 10am-11am
  • Volunteers commit to one shift weekly
  • We are unable to accommodate requests for alterations to the schedule. Please ensure you will be available for the full duration of a shift before applying.
