Instrument Sterilization Volunteer

Volunteers in this role will assist with collecting surgical instruments for sterilization and repackaging them for next day surgeries. Volunteers who are self-directed, thrive with repetitive tasks, and enjoy cleaning will be a great fit for this role!

Responsibilities:

  • Gather used surgical instruments for cleaning
  • Follow strict cleaning and sterilization protocol
  • Assemble and wrap clean spay packs
  • Use the autoclave
  • Other duties as assigned by clinic staff

Necessary Skills:

  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow protocol
  • Ability to follow direction and receive feedback
  • Self-directed and independent while maintaining strong communication skills
  • Able to complete repetitive tasks for an extended period of time
  • Ability to meet the physical requirements of this role, which include variable amounts of standing, walking, bending, reaching and stooping among other actions
  • Able to lift, push, pull or carry objects weighing up to 40 lbs.
  • This role requires frequent verbal and written communication and as such, applicants should be highly proficient in English
  • Proficiency in using a computer without assistance and learning new programs. All volunteers digitally log hours and use an online scheduling function.

Requirements:

  • A minimum commitment of six months
  • A weekly shift on a set day and time
  • Attendance at orientation and on-the-job training
  • Must be 18 or older

Available shifts:

  • Monday-Friday 11am-1pm
  • Volunteers commit to one shift weekly
  • We are unable to accommodate requests for alterations to the schedule. Please ensure you will be available for the full duration of a shift before applying.
