Operations Assistant Volunteer

Description:

This is a great role for volunteers who are detail-oriented and self-directed, and appreciate contributing behind-the-scenes to a variety of our operational needs. Volunteers in this role will not interact with or handle animals. Volunteers in this role should be comfortable adapting to operational needs on a weekly basis, as well as doing a fair amount of physical labor.

Responsibilities:

  • Unload deliveries and pallets of dog/cat food to correct storage locations
  • Inventory and rotation of food, leashes/collars, and other shelter supplies
  • Open and correctly store/stock deliveries
  • Stock and price ticket retail items for sale
  • Miscellaneous administrative duties such as photocopying, putting together adoption packets, etc.
  • Other tasks and projects as assigned

Necessary Skills:

  • Ability to work independently as well as within a team
  • Exceptional computer literacy
  • Impeccable attention to detail; able to anticipate needs
  • Ability to meet the physical requirements of this role, which include variable amounts of standing, walking, bending, reaching and stooping among other actions
  • Able to lift, push, pull or carry objects weighing up to 40 lbs. repeatedly
  • This role requires frequent verbal and written communication and as such, applicants should be highly proficient in English
  • Proficiency in using a computer without assistance and learning new programs. All volunteers digitally log hours and use an online scheduling function.

Requirements:

  • A minimum commitment of six months
  • A weekly shift on a set day and time
  • Attendance at orientation and on-the-job training

Time Commitment:

  • Tuesdays 9am-12pm
  • Volunteers commit to one shift weekly
  • We are unable to accommodate requests for alterations to the schedule. Please ensure you will be available for the full duration of a shift before applying.
