The Week-Long Event Begins August 27
METHUEN, Mass., Aug. 25, 2023 – The MSPCA at Nevins Farm is hosting a week-long fee-waived adoptathon for companion horses. Beginning this weekend, Sunday, August 27 through Saturday, September 2, companion horses in Methuen will be free to adopt—a savings of $250 that can be put toward the care of these new companions.
“We have some really amazing horses in our care who are no longer suited for riding,” explained Rachel Navarro, equine and farm animal assistant manager at Nevins Farm. “But while their riding careers may be over, they’ll be wonderful friends for other horses, farm animals, and humans.”
A New Chapter
This is the MSPCA’s fourth fee-waived event ever held for horses—but the first in more than five years. It is being held jointly with the New Hampshire Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (NHSPCA).
“Many of these horses served previous owners well as lesson ponies and leisure or show horses. Some were even race horses,” Navarro elaborated. “But now they’re starting a new chapter of their lives, and we need adopters for them to enjoy their golden years with.”
Nevins Farm has four companion horses available for adoption in the fee-waived event.
“Each of these horses has quite the personality,” Navarro said. “Pepper is so calm, she was a staple in our summer camp programming. Levi is a gentle giant. Rock is a little pony who’s small and sweet.”
“We know they’ll all be incredible companions for the right adopters.”
How to Adopt
Those interested in adopting during the fee-waived event should stop by Nevins Farm open hours—Tuesday through Sunday, noon – 3 p.m.—to talk to a staff member. Appointments are not necessary.
