MSPCA-Centerville is Ready, Set, Go for the 2014 Furry Affair!

BOSTON and Centerville, Mass. June 3, 2014 – The MSPCA-Angell today previewed the agenda for its 12^th annual Furry Affair, the signature fundraising event that draws hundreds of animal loving philanthropists to the famed Wianno Club in Osterville for an evening dedicated to celebrating animals. The event, to be held on Saturday, June 7, 2014, is expected to raise more than $150,000 to support the MSPCA’s Centerville Animal Care and Adoption Center.

This year’s Furry Affair will be chaired by Maggie DeSantis Ahearn and her husband Kevin, founder of Otis & Ahearn Real Estate, who resides in Boston’s Back Bay and Osterville. The event will once again be emceed by former WCVB-TV news anchor Susan Wornick, who will also serve as auctioneer.

Food, Drinks and Fabulous Auction Items!

The evening consists of both a silent and live auction, a sit-down dinner and the presentation of the prestigious Guardian Angel Award—which is given each year to a member of the Cape Cod community who exemplifies the MSPCA’s mission of kindness and care to animals. This year’s Award will be presented to the volunteers at the Cape Cod Disaster Animal Response Team.

The Furry Affair, which last year raised $140,000 for the housing and care of homeless animals at the MSPCA’s Centerville adoption center, will draw a veritable “Who’s Who” of the Cape Cod social scene including noted bestselling author Casey Sherman; Bobby Orr, widely regarded as the greatest NHL player in hockey history; celebrated Cape Cod artist Sam Barber; Antiques Roadshow television show regular Leigh Keno, founder and president of Keno Auctions and Keno Art Advisory.

Attendees will bid on fabulous prizes and packages, some of which include:

A “food and musical feast” featuring a custom dinner prepared by Matthew Tropeano, executive chef at Hyannis’ famed Pain d’Avignon Café & Boulangerie, which will also include a two-hour jazz vocals performance by songwriter and pianist Nicole Zuraitis. The package is valued at $3,000.
A custom pet portrait painted by famed American impressionist and Cape Cod resident Sam Barber. The prize, valued at $3,500, will add a fabulous portrait in oils to the winner’s art collection.
A dream vacation to Costa Rica including a stay in a private villa in Playa Hermosa, located in the Northwestern area of Costa Rica on the Pacific Coast and surrounded by idyllic beauty and lush hills. The week-long stay is perfect for anyone who wants to escape to paradise for a luxury vacation and is valued at $4,000.
A round of golf for three at the Ridge Club in Sandwich with hockey legend Bobby Orr, which also includes personalized hockey sticks, autographed photos of Orr’s iconic “in flight” winning goal for the Stanley Cup in 1970 and a personally signed copy of his bestselling book: Orr: My Story.
