BOSTON and Centerville, Mass. June 3, 2014 – The MSPCA-Angell today previewed the agenda for its 12th annual Furry Affair, the signature fundraising event that draws hundreds of animal loving philanthropists to the famed Wianno Club in Osterville for an evening dedicated to celebrating animals. The event, to be held on Saturday, June 7, 2014, is expected to raise more than $150,000 to support the MSPCA’s Centerville Animal Care and Adoption Center.
This year’s Furry Affair will be chaired by Maggie DeSantis Ahearn and her husband Kevin, founder of Otis & Ahearn Real Estate, who resides in Boston’s Back Bay and Osterville. The event will once again be emceed by former WCVB-TV news anchor Susan Wornick, who will also serve as auctioneer.
The evening consists of both a silent and live auction, a sit-down dinner and the presentation of the prestigious Guardian Angel Award—which is given each year to a member of the Cape Cod community who exemplifies the MSPCA’s mission of kindness and care to animals. This year’s Award will be presented to the volunteers at the Cape Cod Disaster Animal Response Team.
The Furry Affair, which last year raised $140,000 for the housing and care of homeless animals at the MSPCA’s Centerville adoption center, will draw a veritable “Who’s Who” of the Cape Cod social scene including noted bestselling author Casey Sherman; Bobby Orr, widely regarded as the greatest NHL player in hockey history; celebrated Cape Cod artist Sam Barber; Antiques Roadshow television show regular Leigh Keno, founder and president of Keno Auctions and Keno Art Advisory.
