We recognize making the decision to rehome your animal is not an easy decision. If there is anything we might be able to do to help you troubleshoot the situation you are facing please reach out to us. We often advise owners facing medical or behavioral issues with their pets and can also point you to some additional resources to help you find a new home for your pet while they stay with you. Call us at 617-522-5055 during our open hours or email us at bostonsurrender@mspca.org. We have also put together some helpful resources and tips for working through behavior, medical, or personal situations or for rehoming your pet.
If you need to surrender your animal to the MSPCA, we will do our best to make your pet as comfortable as possible at our adoption center. The shelter environment can be a very stressful place but our staff and volunteers work hard to provide the care and compassion every individual animal deserves. It is important for you to also know that we do not make euthanasia decision based on length of stay or space. Euthanasia decisions are made when an animal is not thriving in the shelter setting, is unsafe to manage in the shelter, or is not medically or behaviorally sound for adoption. We are here to be a resource to you and your pet. Please contact us with any questions or concerns.
