Avian and Exotic Technician
Declan started in the veterinary field in 2011, working with cats and dogs in general practice. He obtained his Bachelor’s degree in Biology (wildlife concentration) from Framingham State University in 2017. In college, he developed a strong interest in exotic pets and wildlife species. In 2019, Declan began working with avian and exotic patients at a hybrid practice. During his time there, he also assisted with wildlife rehabilitation, often raising baby rabbits and squirrels prior to their release. After several years, Declan joined a different general practice and helped introduce avian and exotic medicine to their practice. Declan found joy in training others on how to care for and work with exotic pets.
Wanting to work with exotics full time, Declan joined the Avian and Exotics department at the MSPCA- Angell West in 2024. He has a passion for animal husbandry and has special interests in reptiles, amphibians, and zoo medicine. Declan hopes to obtain his VTS (veterinary technician specialty) in Exotic Companion Animals.
Declan shares his home with several of his own reptiles, as well as two dogs and four cats (all rescues). When not working, Declan enjoys hiking with his partner, trivia with his friends, and painting.
