Dr. Lauren Gawel graduated from the Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine at Tufts University in 2022 with a strong interest in exotic pet and zoo medicine. During her studies, she spent time with the Wildlife Conservation Society through the Global Conservation Program as well as at the Bronx Zoo, Roger Williams Park Zoo in Rhode Island, the National Zoo in Washington, DC, the New England Aquarium, the Palm Beach Zoo, and Zoo Atlanta. Following graduation, she completed a small animal rotating internship at Bulger Veterinary Hospital, a private practice hospital in Lawrence, MA. She then completed a specialty internship in exotic animal medicine and emergency and critical care when she returned to the Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine at Tufts.
Dr. Gawel is passionate about teaching future veterinarians and has taught middle school through college-age students in multiple teaching programs. She is also a board member and the Education Committee chair of the Association of Reptile and Amphibian Veterinarians. When not working, she enjoys hiking, skiing, consuming sci-fi and fantasy media, theater, attending Renaissance fairs, painting, and spending time with her fiancé and their dog, cat, and leopard gecko.
