Primary Care/General Medicine in Waltham

Regular annual checkups can ensure that your pets remain healthy and happy. This allows your veterinarian to evaluate your pet’s overall health and help detect potential problems before they become serious.

Consistent with MSPCA-Angell’s reputation as a full-service veterinary hospital, our General Medicine staff members provide primary and preventative care to our clients. Our General Medicine veterinarians have additional special professional interests such as dermatology, geriatric medicine, chronic disease, endocrinology, vaccination, and preventive medicine.

We also offer General Medicine services at our Boston and Danvers locations.

Our General Medicine and Primary Care Services

  • Offers primary care clinicians for all life stages
  • Coordinates and advises with Angell Animal Medical Center Specialty services
  • Provides preventative health care such as:

      • Examinations
      • Geriatric Medicine services

      • Management for patients with chronic diseases (e.g., kidney failure, diabetes)
      • Spaying and neutering
      • Vaccination protocols specific to your pet’s lifestyle
  • Access to in-house radiology services for efficient diagnosis, including ultrasonography, computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)

Urgent Care

In addition to treating General Medicine patients, Dr. Julie Shields and Dr. Natasha Pakravan also serve our Urgent Care patients. Angell’s Urgent Care service bridges the gap between primary and emergency care.

Drs. Shields and Pakravan treat animals with conditions that require timely treatment but are not in need of our Emergency/Critical Care service. Urgent Care is an appointment-based service, not a walk-in service, with appointments often available within 24 hours, Monday to Friday, 8 am to 6 pm. For more information, visit

Cat Friendly Practice Program®

Our Fear Free techniques helped us earn Gold Level accreditation with the Cat Friendly Practice Program® of the American Association of Feline Practitioners (AAFP). The AAFP requires rigorous guidelines to be met for accreditation. Read more about our efforts here.
