More on Our Surrender Process
- We ask that you fill out the above surrender inquiry form so that staff can reach out to you about scheduling a surrender appointment.
- Can we help you keep your pet? Please reach out to us via telephone or email (contact information above) so that we can help you problem-solve. Be sure to include your telephone number if you leave a message.
- Gather your pet’s medical records, as well as the name and phone number of their most current veterinarian.
- Please make sure dogs are on a leash, cats in a carrier and small animals either in a carrier or cage. If you do not have a carrier or leash at home you are welcome to come to our adoption center prior to surrendering your pet to pick one up.
- Our Adoption Center requests a $150 donation for all animals to help cover the costs of the animal while it is in our care. If you are not able to afford a donation for your animal’s care, we will never turn away an animal based on inability to afford a donation.
We recognize making the decision to rehome your animal is not an easy decision. If there is anything we might be able to do to help you troubleshoot the situation you are facing please reach out to us. We often advise owners facing medical or behavioral issues with their pets and can also point you to some additional resources to help you find a new home for your pet while they stay with you. Call us at 978 -687 -7453 x 6101 or email us at Methuenrehome@mspca.org (and be sure to include your telephone number in the body of your email). We have also put together a webpage with some helpful resources and tips for working through behavior, medical, or personal situations or rehoming your pet.
If you need to surrender your animal to the MSPCA, we will do our best to make your pet as comfortable as possible at our adoption center. The shelter environment can be a very stressful place but our staff and volunteers work hard to provide the care and compassion every individual animal deserves. It is important for you to also know that we do not make euthanasia decision based on length of stay or space. Euthanasia decisions are made when an animal is not thriving in the shelter setting, is unsafe to manage in the shelter, or is not medically or behaviorally sound for adoption. We are here to be a resource to you and your pet. Please contact us with any questions or concerns.
