MSPCA-Angell Law Enforcement Seeks Public’s Help Finding Owner of Injured Stray Dog in Cambridge

“Carrot” Found in Parking Lot with Broken Leg, Muzzle Wound

BOSTON, Sept. 23, 2026 – The MSPCA-Angell’s Law Enforcement department is calling for the public’s help identifying the owner of a stray dog found in a store parking lot at the Fresh Pond Mall in the Alewife neighborhood of Cambridge on September 22.

The dog—now known as Carrot—is believed to be a roughly six-year-old poodle-mix. She was found underweight with a broken leg and injuries on her face consistent with her mouth being taped.

“Someone found this dog in a parking lot and brought her to a local veterinary clinic,” explained MSPCA-Angell Law Enforcement Director, Chris Schindler. “Staff there called Cambridge Animal Control, and officers reached out to our Law Enforcement team to help.”

Carrot was brought to Angell Animal Medical Center in Boston and cared for overnight in the Emergency Department, where staff determined that the break in her front right leg was so severe that it will require amputation.

“Unfortunately, between the severity of the break and the necrotic tissue in her leg, Carrot will need to have it removed,” Schindler elaborated.

“While she’s getting the care and love she needs to heal, we’re going to try to find out more about how she came to be in this condition.”

An Unknown Past

Carrot was found with no identification tags and has no microchip.

“We’re working with Cambridge Animal Control to try to find out more about Carrot’s past,” said Schindler. “To do that, it’s imperative that we get some help from the public.”

Carrot’s Next Steps

Carrot is scheduled to undergo surgery to remove her damaged leg today, September 23, in the MSPCA-Angell Boston Adoption Center Clinic.

“Staff treating Carrot say that despite everything she’s been through, she’s incredibly sweet. We’re confident that she’ll live a happy life once she’s healed.”

The MSPCA-Angell will post updates on Carrot’s status on its social media channels. She is not currently available for adoption.
