Founded in 1868, the MSPCA Equine Ambulance Program has evolved into the nation's pre-eminent service in equine emergency response and rescue. From the early years of a horse-drawn carriage to today’s specialized ambulances outfitted with innovative equipment, the MSPCA has revolutionized the level of expertise available to companion horses and equine athletes in need of urgent veterinary care.
Equine Emergency Response and Rescue
The MSPCA’s emergency response & rescue service has changed the lives of countless horses in the equine world. Horses that previously may not have been survived can now be safely transported to an emergency hospital using the MSPCA’s specialized equipment.
Original Rescue Glide
The MSPCA developed the first Rescue Glide, changing forever the way that downed horses can moved. With this stretcher came a more humane, streamlined way to get horses out of almost any situation. Lightweight yet maneuverable, the Original Rescue Glide can accommodate the largest horses, and can be used by just two people. Horses are able to be transported to a veterinary hospital without ever having to stand up. Today, the Rescue Glide is used across North America.
Sport Horse Ambulance Service
For over a dozen years, the MSPCA has protected equine athletes competing in events across North America. With ambulances designed for maneuverability across any terrain, and with its specialized equipment and professional staff, the MSPCA is able to move injured horses humanely and quickly, enabling on-site veterinarians to provide treatment. Approved by the world’s most prestigious equestrian organizations, the MSPCA is an integral part of safety operations at most major equine events.
Equine Safety & Rescue Training
Setting a standard of excellence, we have established the country's first training program in equine rescue and emergency transport - training more than 6,000 professionals from around the globe. Dedicated to the protection of horses, the MSPCA educates professionals in equine safety issues and humane emergency response & rescue, and has served as the model for over two dozen ambulance programs across the nation.
