Meet the Pathology Team

Patty Ewing, DVM, MS, DACVP, Director, Pathology Service

Dr. Patty Ewing provides medical direction for the Clinical Laboratory, consultation with veterinarians on interpretation of laboratory test results, and diagnostic test selection and evaluation of hematology and cytology samples. Dr. Ewing is board-certified in both clinical and anatomic pathology and has authored over 30 publications and six book chapters in the field of veterinary medicine.

Pamela Mouser, DVM, MS, DACVP

Dr. Mouser evaluates surgical biopsy specimens and histopathology samples collected from necropsy cases. She is a board-certified specialist in the field of anatomic pathology and joined the Pathology department at Angell in 2009. Dr. Mouser’s special interests include ophthalmic and dermatologic pathology.

Nicole Paquette, Manager

Nicole is a dual-certified medical technologist and histologist specializing in laboratory information systems. She loves traveling, Orangetheory, and spending time with the two cats she adopted from the MSPCA-Angell.

Jessie Cullen Racke, Assistant Manager

Jessie is a certified medical technologist with a special interest in microbiology.  She loves to garden and spend time with her family and lovely cat “Bug.”

Vincenzo Alexander

Vincenzo is a Pathology Assistant. He has a B.A. in technology and art. He previously worked in the Communication Center at Angell before joining the Pathology team. He enjoys spending time with his two dogs, Cider and Yucca. He also enjoys reading about advancements in microbiome research and working on various creative projects.

Ciana Daron

Ciana is a proud Pennsylvania State University graduate in veterinary and biomedical sciences, pursuing a master’s in biology at the Harvard Extension School. She is passionate about pathology and works to provide support to the lab team at the MSPCA-Angell. Ciana loves exploring the city, crocheting, and social dancing in her free time.

Ali Dugan

AIi went to Northeastern University and studied conservation biology. She’s a pathology assistant in the MSPCA-Angell lab. In her free time, she enjoys snowboarding, reading, and spending time with her cat Pearl (who was adopted from the MSPCA-Angell 16 years ago).

Pam Dykes

Pam is a pathology assistant with special interests in medical communications and laboratory specimen processing.  Pam enjoys dancing and spending time with family.

Trevor Evans

Trevor has a B.S. in biological sciences from Rutgers University and laboratory research experience at Columbia University.  He was previously a front desk supervisor at Angell before coming to work in the laboratory.  He enjoys running, biking, kayaking, and painting.

Nicole Fox

Nicole graduated from the University of New Hampshire with a B.S. in medical laboratory science and is a certified medical technologist. She has worked in hospitals throughout New England for several years. Nicole enjoys baking, music, travel, and spending time with loved ones in her free time, especially her two cats.

Lauren Hartnett

Lauren has a B.S. in biology from Salve Regina University and is a certified medical technologist with a few years of experience working as a generalist in the laboratory. In her free time, she enjoys attending live music concerts, cooking, and spending time with (both human and furry) friends and family.

Thao Nguyen

Thao Nguyen joined the MSPCA-Angell Lab in 2001 and currently works as a Lead Medical Technologist. He has a master’s in biology and is certified as both a medical and histology technologist.

He enjoys yoga, running, martial arts, and community service in his free time. He lives with his wife, two sons, and a 3-year-old Shih Tzu named Toboy.

Samantha Paula MLT(ASCP)CM, Pathology Supervisor

Samantha holds a B.S. in evolutionary biology and ecology, a B.A. in anthropology, and an A.S. in clinical laboratory science. She is a certified medical laboratory technician and worked at the MSPCA-Angell as a lead medical technologist for four years before taking a break to pursue other career developments and returning to Angell in 2022. She enjoys spending time with her husband, two dogs, and three cats.

Sarah Phillips

Sarah Phillips is a medical laboratory technician. She found her calling in the medical lab after spending many years in administration and being a hospital aide. Sarah is passionate about all creatures, great and small, including her two cats, Thelma and Louise. Her spare time is spent listening to music, watching movies, and laughing with friends and family.

Kristi Pike

Kristi has a B.A. in biology from Wellesley College. She has worked for 19 years as a medical technologist with special interests in hematology and clinical chemistry. She enjoys travel, running, bird watching, and raising butterflies. She has a menagerie at home, three dogs, three cats, and two rabbits.

Karla Starkenberg

Karla received her B.S. in medical laboratory Science from Northeastern University and has eight years of experience as a medical technician generalist in hospitals north of Boston. In her free time, she enjoys warm- and cold-weather outdoor activities, pet-sitting for her dog “sister” and dog “nieces,” and being active in greater Boston vegan and animal advocacy groups.
