Cat Room Greeter – Methuen

Description:

This brand new volunteer role is an opportunity for people who are excited to engage with the public, and act as a support to our Cat Matchmakers, helping our cats find homes! Cat Room Greeter volunteers should have strong customer service skills, be adaptable to the changing needs of the adoption center, and be excited to be a representative of the MSPCA and our programs.

We do not offer an opportunity for volunteers to socialize with cats as their only task. This role does not involve socializing with cats.

Responsibilities:

  • Greet visitors entering our cat adoption room and kindly inform them of the rules for visiting.
  • Communicate with our volunteer Matchmakers, Caregivers, and staff.
  • Volunteers who are bilingual may be asked to translate for Matchmakers and potential adopters, if they are comfortable doing so.

 

Qualities/Skills:

  • Good customer service skills.
  • Empathetic, non-judgmental approach.
  • Ability to work independently and with other volunteers.
  • Being bilingual in English and Spanish is a plus!
  • This shift requires a combination of standing and walking for the duration of the shift. Seating or space for a wheelchair may be able to be arranged if noted as a need on the application.
  • The ability to follow guidelines regarding interaction with visitors and cats. Greeters are not authorized to handle Matchmaking tasks, unless translating between a Matchmaker and a potential adopter. This role does not involve socializing with cats.

 

Requirements:

  • Attendance at a virtual orientation.
  • On-the-job training.

 

Time Commitment:

  • A weekly two or two and a half hour shift on a set day and time.
  • Available shifts are Tuesday 12pm-2pm, Friday 12pm-2pm, Saturday 12pm-2pm, and Saturday 2pm-4:30pm. Please ensure your availability matches one of these shifts before applying.
  • Minimum of 3 month commitment to a weekly shift, after onboarding. (Please allow up to a month for onboarding.)
