Duke is a spunky little guy who is looking for a special home. He came to us from a southern shelter so we don’t know much about his history, but he has been learning all about manners since he came to us. Somewhere along the road Duke learned to use his mouth to play when he is really excited or to communicate when he is frustrated, but we have been teaching him better ways to express his feelings. Duke is looking for a home with lots of patience and an eagerness to continue teaching Duke how to be his best self! Duke could do well with a tolerant dog friend, but is looking for an adult only home. He is a very smart boy who loves to train, play and go for walks, so a family who can keep his brain and body active will be ideal.

Cat and small animal areas will remain open to walk through.

Budgerigars, the most common parakeet we see, are native to Australia where they live in massive flocks in the grasslands. Parakeets tend to be docile, gentle, can be easy to tame and can even talk! Despite their small size, these birds can have large vocabularies and can make a wonderful training companion. We recommend that parakeets live in pairs or groups whenever possible. Parakeets can live up to 7-15 years with proper nutrition and care, and can be a loyal companion.
We recommend a cage that is at least 27”x24” (Width x depth) with a maximum of ½” bar spacing. Cages should include lots of perches, trays for food/water and lots of toys for enrichment. Nests can be provided but should be removed if any females begin to lay eggs. We do not recommend a seed only diet as it can lead to malnutrition and other potential issues, please consult your vet for specific diet recommendations.
The needs of each parakeet are unique and if you have questions about the right type of enclosure for the parakeet you are interested in, please let us know in your inquiry! We are happy to provide guidance and advice.

Say hello to Seamus. I know, those ears!! He is young and active and
friendly and playful. Did we mention active? Good boy Seamus is looking
for a special adopter. Seamus and his littermate Petal were raised in a
situation where they saw very few people or dogs besides their family, and
did not see much of the outside world. Now, new things can be scary.
Seamus is hoping for an adopter that will keep his world small and safe as
he acclimates to his new home. The adopters should watch Seamuss body
language and help him out when things get to be too much. And adopters
will need to practice petting consent, because sometimes even that is scary.
Seamus might benefit from living with a calm older dog who can show him the
ropes. This pup might also successfully live with a cat using complete
separation to start. And living with children is a possibility.
Lastly, he is still a young puppy. He has everything to learn. Getting a
puppy is so much work, but the benefits in the end are amazing. Do you
think this little guy is the pup for you? Come meet Seamus at the MSPCA in
Methuen on Tuesdays through Sundays from 12PM to 4:30PM.
Ponyo & Edie are a bonded pair! They are friendly pair of chinchillas, with a good history living with kids. Edie is okay with being held, and Ponyo is on the shy side. The pair enjoys chewing on wood, and would benefit from a variety of enrichment including plenty of chewing based enrichment.
Chinchillas can be smart, inquisitive and loving, and can even live up to 20 years! These animals are very active, and their acrobatics can be very entertaining! As social creatures, chinchillas should always be housed with same-sex companions except for a behavioral or medical reason. Chinchillas must be provided with lots of chewing enrichment to keep their teeth properly worn down.
We recommend a large solid floored, multi-level cage similar to those made for ferrets or chinchillas. Paper bedding or other appropriate nesting material (wood shaving are NOT appropriate) should be provided to allow the chinchilla to dig, stockpile food and nest. The cage must include a solid (no rungs) exercise wheel and houses or other structures for the chinchilla to hide in. Chinchillas bathe using a dust bath and should be provided a shallow bowl of dust several times a week. Cages should always be well ventilated but kept away from direct sunlight, and drafts. Timothy hay is an important piece of a chinchilla’s diet and must always be available.
The needs of each chinchilla are unique and if you have questions about the right type of enclosure for the chinchilla you are interested in, please let us know in your inquiry! We are happy to provide guidance and advice.

Maggie is an active and playful young dog. She is silly and happy with
her friends. And yes, she has lots of puppy energy. Get ready!
This sweet girl did not have the best of pasts. She spent a lot of time
crated and may not have had the chance to learn all the things a puppy
needs to know. She will need a patient adopter to help her. First will be
to give Maleficent the time to decompress and adjust to her new world.
Then, slowly introduce new people, places and things, all the while
watching her to best help her succeed. This pretty girl could possibly
live with a confident dog or a dog savvy cat. And she would probably
benefit from enrolling in a manners class or two. It is not evident if
Maggie was completely house trained in her previous home. New adopters
should puppy proof the house, just in case.
This beautiful dog is waiting for the chance to belong to a family and
enjoy being a dog. Would you like to meet her? Visit the MSPCA in
Methuen on Tuesdays through Sundays from 12PM to 4:30PM.
Meet Mia, a sweet, smart, and cuddly girl. She loves nothing more than a good game of fetch and will happily chase after the ball for hours so is looking for an active family! She is a determined dog looking for a patient and understanding adopter who is willing to adjust her environment and management plan in real-time to help her succeed. With proper training and management, Mia has the potential to learn new behaviors. Flexibility and observation are key as Mia’s new family supports her growth.
In the beginning, Mia will benefit from a controlled environment, to help her make the right decisions during her transition. Mia is looking for a patient adopter who is excited about training using positive reinforcement. An adopter who understands or is eager to learn how to read dog body language and respects her petting consent will be key. Mia prefers to be the only dog in the household and will thrive in a home that can offer her the structure and patience she needs to flourish.
I am a pretty orange lady, a rarity!! I love to be brushed, especially on my face. I am active and playful, but on the shyer side, and will hide a lot, but with time and space I will feel comfortable enough to re-emerge.
I will need a very slow transition to my new home and any existing pets while I settle in and become comfortable in my surroundings. I do not handle transitions well, and busy environments are hard for me, so a quiet, low-traffic home will suit me best.
Stop by our Nevins Farm Adoption Center to meet Simone. We have open adoption hours Tuesday-Sunday from 12pm- 4:30pm. No appointment is needed to speak to a staff person regarding available pets.
You are welcome to enter our cat rooms during open hours. Staff and volunteers will be happy to assist you!
Meet Bud! Bud is a Domestic Longhair Orange tabby. He’s a chill guy who loves hanging out with people. He truley is a people cat kind of cat.
Bud has a couple of medical issues that an adopter should be prepared for. He is diabetic which means he will need to be on insulin the rest of his life. An adopter should have a good relationship with their veterinarian because of this. In addition to this, he is also FIV+. Cats with FIV can live a normal lifespan, but we do recommend follow up with primary veterinarian for ongoing monitoring of this condition and additional recommendations.
If you think Bud might be a good fit for you, please come visit the Boston Adoption Center today!
Baby and Lovey are a duo of sweet senior ladies looking for a calm and cozy home to enjoy their golden years. These two may be a little shy at first, but once they warm up, they will reward you with the gentlest purrs and the sweetest companionship.
While they would love to stay together, they understand that the right home isn’t always a two-for-one deal—so they’re open to the idea of finding a new home separately if needed. Either way, they’re looking for a quiet, peaceful home where they can curl up in sunny spots, enjoy leisurely afternoon naps, and share their love at their own pace.
If you have a soft spot for senior kitties and a heart big enough for one (or two!) sweet souls, Baby and Lovey would love to meet you! If you think these cats could be a good match for your home and would like to learn more, stop by our Cape Cod Adoption Center. We have open adoption hours Tuesday-Sunday from 1pm-4pm – no appointment or application needed.

Bella is a 15 year old dilute tortie who knows what she likes. She spent most of her life with one person, so it takes her a while to warm up to new people. She is described as short-fused, so she needs an adopter who can understand her boundaries and give her space when she needs it. She is looking for a quiet home and to be the only animal in the household. Because of her age, it will be important for an adopter to establish a close relationship with a veterinarian. Once she warms up and you become her person, she will be your best friend.
If you think you might be a good fit for Bella, come to the Boston Adoption Center today!

Chinchillas can be smart, inquisitive and loving, and can even live up to 20 years! These animals are very active, and their acrobatics can be very entertaining! Forrest came to us on a transport from another shelter that is overwhelmed with the number of homeless animals in their care and is ready to find a new home of their own! We’re not sure what this pup is mixed with, but we think they will likely be on the larger side. Like all pups, they will need their family to teach them all the doggie basics like walking on a leash and housetraining. For puppies under 4 months, signing up for a puppy training class at an MSPCA-Angell location is included with the adoption fee if you take advantage of the offer during time of adoption. Let an adoption team member know if you’d like us to help sign you up during the adoption process.
If you think this pup could be a good match for your home and would like to learn more, stop by MSPCA at Northeast Animal Shelter. We have open adoption hours 11:30am-5pm daily – no appointment or application needed.
Please note, in an effort to keep the stress levels reduced for the dogs in our care, our dog kennel areas will not be open to walk through. Interested adopters will work with a matchmaker on staff to determine which dog(s) they are interested in and if we can identify a match, potential adopters will be able to meet those dogs outside of the kennel. Cat areas will remain open to walk through.
Scooby is a handsome boy who is looking for a home of his own! Scooby is an active boy, but is currently being treated for heartworm which will require some extra support for the first few monthes settling home. He would prefer to be the only dog in the home, but that doesn’t mean he can’t have dog friends in the future!
If you think this dog could be a good match for your home and would like to learn more, stop by our Boston Adoption Center. We have open adoption hours Tuesday-Sunday from 12pm-3pm – no appointment needed to speak to a staff person regarding available dogs.

Meet Cool Whip, a spunky and sweet boy who’s ready to find a family that will help him blossom. This handsome pup had a rough start in life and can be a little worried in new situations, but with time, patience, and lots of love, he’ll show you his playful and goofy side. He’s still figuring out the ins and outs of being a dog, so he’ll need adopters who can guide him with kindness and consistency as he learns the ropes.
Once Cool Whip feels safe, his silly personality shines!
He’s a vocal guy who’s never afraid to let you know what’s on his mind, and he loves to play when he’s feeling confident. Whether he’s zooming around the yard or just hanging out by your side, he’s sure to bring plenty of joy and laughter into your home. If you’re looking for a fun-loving pup who just needs a little patience to thrive, Cool Whip might be your perfect match!
Guinea pigs can make wonderful pets! They are very social creatures which means that they generally need at least one companion! Of course guinea pigs should only be kept with other piggies of the same sex. A pair of guinea pigs needs at minimum 10.5 sq. feet of cage space, or roughly 30″ x 50″ with a solid bottom, but more room is always encouraged! Guinea pigs can be quite noisy which can be lovely as long as you are expecting it!

Mary needs a patient adopter who is excited about training using positive reinforcement. With patience and understanding, Mary will thrive and show her true, loving nature.
