This mouse came to us from an overpopulated home, and is generally undersocialized. This mouse may do best with an mouse companion (preferably a well socialized mouse already in the home), and will need patience as it re-adapts to a home and learns to interact with people.
Mice are nocturnal, very acrobatic and talented adventures. They can even jump up to a foot and a half! Mice can be very skittish, but with patience and care can make wonderful companions. Mice can get along in same-sex groups but each is unique so we recommend being prepared to separate them if required. We prefer that mice, especially females, are housed with or nearby other mice as inter-species socialization can be vital to an animal’s happiness and mimicking their natural needs.
We recommend a 10 gallon or larger tank filled with about ¼” of paper bedding or other nesting material. Nesting material should be loose, light, easy to manipulate, and of course safe. Enclosures should be well ventilated but kept out of direct drafts, and should provide plenty of enclosed opaque shelters for the mice to retreat into as desired. Enclosures should provide lots of enrichment for the mice to meet their natural needs in the areas of chewing/gnawing, physical movement, resting/hiding, and nesting material or food to forage. A properly sized wheel or disc is a necessity for the mice to meet their exercise needs.
The needs of each mouse are unique and if you have questions about the right type of enclosure for the mouse you are interested in, please let us know in your inquiry! We are happy to provide guidance and advice.

If you’ve always wanted backyard goats, look no further! We have several wethers who are looking for new homes.
Goats are very social animals and these Mini LaMancha boys get along quite well, so we are aiming to send them home as a group but are open to sending them home in pairs depending on what you’re looking for! If you already have a herd, we recommend these boys going with other horned goats.
They will require a fenced in area with appropriate shelter for inclement weather. Since goats are considered livestock, you will need to check with your town to make sure they are allowed in your area. We’re here to support you and answer whatever questions you may have, so please reach out if you think you could offer a loving home to some of these wonderful goats!
Roc and Abra are currently living together and would prefer to go home together!
Abra loves to play and sunbathe, he has a good history around kids and other rabbits.
We recommend providing a safe indoor enclosure that allows a rabbit to stretch their legs and move around. The needs of each rabbit are unique and if you have questions about the right type of enclosure for the rabbit you are interested in, please let us know in your inquiry! Rats are nocturnal, highly social and extremely intelligent animals! Due to the highly social nature of rats we prefer to match them with homes with existing rats, or to adopters looking to take home two or more rats. Rats can be food driven (and great foragers!) making them excellent animals to train. We always recommend the use of positive reinforcement training with your animals, and are happy to provide more information on this topic.
We recommend providing a safe indoor enclosure that allows the rat plenty of space to exercise. The minimum cage size should be 2’x2.5’x2’, with good ventilation (no glass enclosures) and must have a solid base. Preferably the shelter includes multiple levels, with appropriate use of linens or paper bedding and lots of rat appropriate toys. Rats should never be housed with other animals, each species should always have its own housing.
The needs of each rat are unique and if you have questions about the right type of enclosure for the rat you are interested in, please let us know in your inquiry! We are happy to provide guidance and advice.

We have several lovely Muscovy ducks available for adoption! Ducks are very social animals, so we’d love to send these birds home in pairs or home to their very own flock! Ducks are such a fun addition to any backyard flock and are quite happy as long as they have plenty of water to splash around in.
This shy kitten is ready to find a new home of their own! We are still getting to know them, but like most kittens, they will need a family to teach them all the kitten basics like socializing with people and playing with appropriate toys. They could likely go to a home with another cat who wants an annoying younger sibling to be a role model to.
This kitten has been diagnosed with a Chronic Upper Respiratory Infection. A Chronic Upper Respiratory Infection may flare up in times of stress, so it is best that an adopter have a good relationship with a veterinarian to help manage and treat this long term illness.

Guinea pigs can make wonderful pets! They are very social creatures which means that they generally need at least one companion! Of course guinea pigs should only be kept with other piggies of the same sex. A pair of guinea pigs needs at minimum 10.5 sq. feet of cage space, or roughly 30″ x 50″ with a solid bottom, but more room is always encouraged! Guinea pigs can be quite noisy which can be lovely as long as you are expecting it!

Meet Beefsteak, Beans and Hamlet! This trio is looking to find their forever home either together or on their own depending if it’s the right fit! These boys are a bit wary when it comes to people but we think with time (and treats!) they will feel more comfortable with their human family.
These three pigs will need room to roam, graze, root, and wallow. A proper pig proof enclosure and fencing is a must with access to an indoor space for shelter as needed.
If any of these pigs interest you please submit and adoption inquiry to discuss them further.

Calling all draft horse lovers – this is one you don’t want to miss! Roger is a sweet, sensitive soul who has quickly become a staff and volunteer favorite since his arrival at Nevins Farm.
Roger appears to be quite familiar with the routine of harnessing – all you have to do is hold a halter out in front of you and he will lower his head right into it. Despite this, Roger can be a nervous fellow and really benefits from a calm, gentle approach from his handler. Even though his initial instinct is to react with fear, Roger has really impressed the staff at Nevins with how quickly he learns and adapts to new situations.
Roger will need a farrier experienced with trimming and caring for draft horses. This is the area that makes him the most nervous, but with enough time and practice we are confident he will get on the right track! He has a couple of special considerations when it comes to his hoof health which staff will be happy to discuss with any potential adopters.
Roger has lived out 24/7 since his arrival to Nevins and currently lives with his other draft buddy. At this time, Roger is seeking a more lowkey home where his new family will give him ample time to settle in and get to know him before exploring what he might want to do!
Interested in learning more about Roger? Please fill out an adoption inquiry and a staff member will be in touch!
Who is this regal looking pup? This is Reina, and she`s looking to find her furever home! Reina may be 3 years old, but still has a lot to learn about being an upstanding canine citizen! Reina would love some help working on her manners, she loves positive reinforcement training and could do really well with a family that is just as excited to train as she is. Reina would do best in a quiet, calm environment to help her come out of her shell, as she tends to get stressed and overwhelmed in new situations. Reina is young and athletic, and has known to LOVE playing with her tennis balls and getting zoomies. Reina would love a patient adopter that can take things at her pace, and she will reward them with lots of snuggles!

Interested adopters will work with a matchmaker on staff to determine which dog(s) theyre interested in – and if we can identify a match, potential adopters will be able to meet those dogs outside of the kennel. Cat and small animal areas will remain open to walk through.

Belly rubs, squeaky toys and walks are a few of sweet Perla`s favorite things. She is 6 years old and is waiting to start the next chapter of her life. Her adopter will need to give her plenty of time to slowly transition to her home as she gets nervous with changes in her life. So this means her world will need to start off small and just be her new family that engages with her in the home and outside, close by. The key to a successful transition, is to allow Perla to decide when she`s ready to expand her circle of friends. Perla can be a talkative lady when she`s excited or wants to play.
Depending on introductions, she could possibly live with a dog that has a similar personality. She has lived with cats before, but will of course, need a slow, well managed introduction to a new kitty in her life. Perla also lived with children, so older kids that will give her time to adjust and get to know them, will be considered. Perla does have some ongoing medical needs that will require her adopter to have a good relationship with a vet.
This good girl will make you laugh everyday with her silly, bouncy ways and that sweet face of hers will melt your heart. If you think she`s the one for you, please fill out the adoption inquiry form in the link below.
Spirit cats are very shy with people, and live in your home but are rarely seen – hence their name. They are cats who coexist in your home, and sometimes may grant you the opportunity to touch them – or they may not. Despite being shy with people, spirit cats are usually great with other cats! They are used to living with many cats, and can make excellent companions for cats in your home. It’s not uncommon for a spirit cat to get used to one or two people over time, and those people will be allowed to touch them and they may even choose to hang out near you or sleep on your bed at night. They are a great choice for people with a quiet household, who want to make a difference for an individual cat. Patience and understanding are the best tools when welcoming a spirit cat into your home. It’s important to know that spirit cats won’t magically turn into a normal acting cat – what you see is what you get for a long time, maybe always.
They are a fine choice for situations where you don’t have a lot of time to devote to a pet as they don’t require a lot of attention from humans. They are not a good choice for a busy home, including those with small children.
** Please note that this cat is waiting for their spay/neuter surgery and may not be able to go home same day! **
This staff favorite, Tarot, is a special girl with a heart full of potential and a world all her own.
Tarot is blind, and her sensitivity to changes in her environment makes her a bit cautious at first. In the shelter, she has shown signs of stress, such as hiding and avoiding touch, but this is simply her way of navigating a world filled with unfamiliar people.
Tarot is looking for a patient adopter (or adopters) who will give her the time and space she needs to feel safe. She would love a quiet, secure space to decompress, ideally away from heavy foot traffic and loud noises. It may take her a few days or even weeks to adjust, but with your understanding and attention to her body language, she will gradually open up.
Due to her blindness, Tarot thrives in a calm, predictable environment with plenty of hiding spots and vertical surfaces like cat trees. A cat-savvy adopter who can read her signs and respect her boundaries will help her feel more at ease.
Tarot is looking for someone as special and as sweet as she is. She prefers to initiate interactions at her own pace, and with gentle patience, she will start seeking out your company and affection.
Tarot could do well with a calm, cat-savvy dog or another cat, but she will need her own space and a gentle approach. Children should be experienced with shy, sensitive cats.
If you’re looking for a sweet, quiet companion who just needs a little extra time to adjust, Tarot might be the perfect match for you. Please don’t overlook this very special gal—she is truly one of a kind.
If you think Tarot could be a good match for your home and would like to learn more, stop by MSPCA at Northeast Animal Shelter.
