More about Norah:
I am a mix of a quiet, easy-going lady, but I am playful when I am comfortable in my surroundings. I can be very friendly with people in my bubble when it is quiet.
I will need a VERY slow introduction to my new home. I should start in one quiet room with managed hiding places, and gradually be given more access to the house as I settle in. My adopter should keep expectations for me very low as I lived in my previous home for two years and would still more often than not hide. I may exist more as a spirit cat, but I did come out when it was quiet, and to be near my people, allowing pets, but when there was any loud noise or movement, I went right back under the bed. My adopter really needs to let me adapt at my own pace, and accept that I am who I am, and needs to be a patient, understanding person who will not push me, or expect me to be anything other than who I am.
I was good with the other cat in my previous home, but the other cat often bullied me. The most acceptable situation would be for my adopter to have an existing confident, friendly, social cat that can serve as my emotional support system. Our introduction needs to be slowly managed!
The shelter is open Tuesday through Sunday from noon – 3:00 pm, with no appointment needed to meet available cats.
Compatibility:
Cats: YES PLEASE! See above
Dogs: Possibly – no history: very mellow who will not pay attention to her
Kids: Older – teens and up that are quiet
Longest Cape resident alert! Meet Selene. This sweet girl adores head scratches and is ready for a new home where she can indulge in cat naps in the sun.
She has tested positive for Feline Leukemia (FeLV) so we are recommending that she goes to a home without other cats. Staff would be happy to chat with you more about her FeLV status!
More info on FeLV can be found here: https://veterinarypartner.vin.com/default.aspx?pid=19239&id=4951934
We’d like to introduce a very special cat named Digit. He is 3 years old, and has a regressive case of FeLV – or Feline Leukemia Virus – which will shorten his lifespan, and we are hoping to find him a loving indoor-only home where he can live out his life. Despite his diagnosis, he is a happy, social, and playful cat who enjoys the company of pretty much everyone he meets! Digit would like to be the only cat in the household. Interested adopters should click the inquire button below to learn more and shelter staff will provide additional counseling on FeLV and answer any questions at the time of adoption.

More about Fiona:
I am playful and I love laser toys!! I sometimes play rough by grabbing hands, so my adopter needs to promote appropriate play with me. I am friendly with adults and older children that I know, but can be shy with visitors.
I have a history of bladder stones and am currently on a C/D diet trial and will need to go home on a foster-to-adopt basis through my recheck to see if I require surgery. Either way, my adopter will need a close relationship with a veterinarian for future follow-up care and I should stay on a prescription urinary diet.
Due to my history of unmanaged bladder stones, I have had a history of inappropriate urination outside of the litter box. In order to set me up for success, I should go to an adoptive home that is relatively low-traffic where I will be the one-and-only pet.
My adopter should be prepared to start me off in a pee-proof space. This can be a small bedroom or larger bathroom or walk-in closet, but it would ideally be a space where I can comfortably decompress after my transition out of my original home and my shelter stay. The space should be easy to clean. My adopter should be comfortable confining me in this space for as long as it takes me to display calm, confident affirmative body language and be using my litter box 100% reliably for several days in a row. My adopter should plan for no less than two weeks, but it could take longer for me to settle in and use the box reliably.
Once I am ready to move beyond the initial confinement space, my adopter should be prepared to give me slow, incremental access to the rest of the house.
My ideal adopter will express an understanding that patience is the name of the game. If my adopter hurries through the process, the risk is that I will resume inappropriate urinating.
The shelter is open Tuesday through Sunday from noon – 3:00 pm, with no appointment needed to meet available cats.

Rascal is a shy guy looking for a quiet place to land. We don’t know much about his history, but it seems like he lived a pretty quiet life before coming to the shelter. Rascal was comfortable with his family, but was nervous with new people. We’re not sure if Rascal has lived with other pets before, but might be okay with a slow introduction. Rascal has been with us at the shelter for a little while now and has been showing off his shy side, but is now starting to venture out to explore and collect head scratches. If your quiet home is looking for a ball of fluff named Rascal, come in during open hours to meet him!
If you think you are a good fit and would like to learn more, stop by our Boston Adoption Center. We have open adoption hours Tuesday-Sunday from 12pm-3pm – no appointment needed.

More about Mittens:
I am a quiet girl, and a lap cat with my person. I love to be pet when the home is quiet. I have lived with children, and in the evening when the home was quiet I was affectionate with them. I have good litter box manners.
I was was slow to adjust to my home three years ago, so I will need a slow introduction to my new home, litter box, and any existing pets while I settle in and become comfortable in my new surroundings.
I am afraid of loud noises, people I do not know, other cats and dogs except for the cat I previously lived with.

More about Cleopatra:
I am a sweet, loving, gorgeous lady! I will make a lovely companion for the right adopter. I will need someone patient, understanding of my history, committed to my being the only pet in the home, and able to follow a strict plan for a slow introduction to my new home, as well as to so some sleuthing to determine my litter box preferences.
If you are still here, you are interested in me, so keep on reading some of the difficult stuff:
I have a history of peeing outside of my litter box in high-stress situations in my life (living with another cat, new baby in the home). Oftentimes I would pee in the shower.
I will need a really slow introduction to my new home. i will need to start out in a single room, a `pee-proof space`, ideally one without carpet. In this room I should have multiple litter box options (covered vs. uncovered, different litter options). My adopter should be prepared to do some experimenting to determine my preference, and to ensure my boxes remain tidy consistently. Once my preference is determined and I am acclimated to my new environment and caretaker(s), I should be introduced to the remainder of the house slowly, gaining access to only one room at a time with the usage of baby gates, etc., to restrict access. I should have my preferred litter box option in multiple locations throughout the house.
It is possible for cats like me to need further support beyond a prescription diet, environmental management and stress reduction to be successful. In the event I continue to struggle with appropriate litter box usage, my adopter may need to enlist the assistance of a veterinary behaviorist.
A quiet, low-traffic, low-stress environment is the most likely situation for me to succeed, but I still might struggle at times. My adopter should own their home vs. renting due to potential accidents.
The shelter is open Tuesday through Sunday from noon – 3:00 pm, with no appointment needed to meet available cats.
Compatibility:
Cats: No thank you!
Dogs: No thank you!
Kids: Older, respectful of cat`s needs, and generally on the quiet side
I am very sweet with my people, and I will come up and rub up on my owners legs and tap my owner with my paw. I am a low-maintenance girl.
I will hide when I am afraid, but I have never done anything aggressive about my fear.
I enjoy going outside on the porch wearing a harness, but I have not gone beyond the porch because I am always wearing a harness or am supervised.
I am a sensitive girl, and I would do best as the only pet in a quiet adult-only home.
I have a history of litter box accidents when introduced to other animals. I will need a slow introduction to my litter box, provided with several options, and kept confirmed to a small space while I settle in and become comfortable in my new surroundings.

More about Stitch:
I have the potential to be a sweet, gentle companion with a very cat-savvy adopter who is willing to put in the extra effort to help me come out of my shell. I have excellent history living with other cats, and would most often be found playing with my housemates. I really enjoying having feline friends to play with.
The expectations of my adopter should be kept low at first and accept that I will need time (weeks to a month or more) to show more of my true personality. Based on history in my last home, I can be expected to always be a bit skittish with new people, so a low-traffic, quiet home will be ideal for me. I will do best with the people within my bubble (after time), and I will not be the type of cat to go up to and greet visitors.
I need to have a very slow introduction to my new home. I should start in one quiet room with managed hiding places and gradually be given more access to the house as I settle in. Keep expectations for me very low. I may exist more as a spirit cat: coming out when the home is quiet to be near my people and allowing pets, but with any loud noise or movement I will probably go back into hiding.
It cannot be stressed enough that my adopter needs to let me adapt at my own pace. I need a patient, understanding adopter who will not push me, or expect me to be anything other than who I am. Just let me be me!!
Staff is available to answer questions and offer advice on how to help me adjust in my new home.

Meet Tuxedo Mask! This pretty lady is ready for her new home. She is a shy but sweet girl who may take a little while to adjust to her adoptive home. She came to the shelter with her friend Sailor Moon (who is also available for adoption!) and while they’d likely enjoy continuing their friendship in their new home, they’re not required to be adopted together. Tuxedo Mask has successfully lived with cats before, and she’d likely do best in a home that has a nice and social cat to help ease the transition and encourage her to come out of her shell.
If you are interested in adopting a cat (or two), stop by our open hours!
Trixie’s got the boots with the fur!! Aside from her gorgeous temporary hairstyle, Trixie boasts an affectionate personality and is ready to make her way into a new home. Stop by during our open hours to see her!

I would prefer a quiet, low-traffic home. I will need a slow introduction to my new home, litter box, and any existing pets while I settle in and become comfortable in my new surroundings. A small room will be best for me to start, and my adopter will need to allow me to come around at my own pace.
I can be conflicted about close handling and may hiss, swat, or move away if feeling uncomfortable. My adopter should be able to read cat-body language and understand when to give me space. My adopter should have a relationship with a fear-free vet.

More about Samantha:
I am a beautiful lady, playful, and very smart! I can be affectionate, and I loved to sit with my previous dad. I am a nudger! I will keep my people company when they are sick, and I offer purrs when pet. I love wand toys, scratching posts, catnip, balls, and ice cubes. I accept head scritches, but can get overstimulated with touch easily and will swat.
I have had issues when my litter box has been left soiled, and no problems at all when it is kept scooped, so my adopter will need to clean my litter box daily to keep all of us happy!
