This sweet and sensitive girls name is Nala. While Nala would like to live
up to her namesake being the queen of the jungle, she is still just a lion
cub! In reality, our girl Nala is a bit worried when it comes to trying new
things. Nalas dream is to have a family that can help her slowly expand
her comfort zone with lots of patience. Nala will need an adopter to help
her navigate her challenges on her own time. When Nala is comfortable, she
becomes the squishiest and snuggliest pup in the pack! Nala has been able
to expand her circle of friends and often enjoys playing with a variety of
dogs here! While she will need a space to call her own as she settles in,
she could enjoy having a dog friend in the home. She has no history with
cats, but has the potentail to live with them. She could also potentailly
live with kiddos! If you think this dog could be a good match for your home
and would like to learn more, stop by our Methuen Adoption Center. We have
open adoption hours Tuesday-Sunday from 12pm to 4:30pm.
Budgerigars, the most common parakeet we see, are native to Australia where they live in massive flocks in the grasslands. Parakeets tend to be docile, gentle, can be easy to tame and can even talk! Despite their small size, these birds can have large vocabularies and can make a wonderful training companion. We recommend that parakeets live in pairs or groups whenever possible. Parakeets can live up to 7-15 years with proper nutrition and care, and can be a loyal companion.
We recommend a cage that is at least 27”x24” (Width x depth) with a maximum of ½” bar spacing. Cages should include lots of perches, trays for food/water and lots of toys for enrichment. Nests can be provided but should be removed if any females begin to lay eggs. We do not recommend a seed only diet as it can lead to malnutrition and other potential issues, please consult your vet for specific diet recommendations.
The needs of each parakeet are unique and if you have questions about the right type of enclosure for the parakeet you are interested in, please let us know in your inquiry! We are happy to provide guidance and advice.

This mouse came to us from an overpopulated home, and is generally undersocialized. This mouse may do best with an mouse companion (preferably a well socialized mouse already in the home), and will need patience as it re-adapts to a home and learns to interact with people.
Mice are nocturnal, very acrobatic and talented adventures. They can even jump up to a foot and a half! Mice can be very skittish, but with patience and care can make wonderful companions. Mice can get along in same-sex groups but each is unique so we recommend being prepared to separate them if required. We prefer that mice, especially females, are housed with or nearby other mice as inter-species socialization can be vital to an animal’s happiness and mimicking their natural needs.
We recommend a 10 gallon or larger tank filled with about ¼” of paper bedding or other nesting material. Nesting material should be loose, light, easy to manipulate, and of course safe. Enclosures should be well ventilated but kept out of direct drafts, and should provide plenty of enclosed opaque shelters for the mice to retreat into as desired. Enclosures should provide lots of enrichment for the mice to meet their natural needs in the areas of chewing/gnawing, physical movement, resting/hiding, and nesting material or food to forage. A properly sized wheel or disc is a necessity for the mice to meet their exercise needs.
The needs of each mouse are unique and if you have questions about the right type of enclosure for the mouse you are interested in, please let us know in your inquiry! We are happy to provide guidance and advice.

These mice love chewing on apple sticks, foraging for food, running on their wheels, and building tunnels in their bedding! They are young and pretty curious about humans, and could benefit from a patient adopter that could participate in hand training if they’re interested!

MY ADOPTION FEE WIL BE WAIVED FEBRUARY 17 – 23 AS PART OF THE MISSED CONNECTIONS ADOPTION EVENT !!!
Meet Deniro! He`s happy, bouncy, and super wiggly. Deniro loves to play and is full of energy, so he`d make a great companion for a hiker, runner, or just an admirer of the great outdoors. We think Deniro would be most happy in a quieter setting – he seems to be a little worried by the traffic here at the shelter. He could live with a well-matched dog friend with thoughtful introductions, but would be just as happy as your one and only. While Deniro has his playful side, he also gets SUPER snuggly once he`s gotten his activity needs met! Kids in the home should be able to participate in training and unfazed by a bouncy pup and their goofy antics.
If you think this dog could be a good match for your home and would like to learn more, stop by MSPCA Northeast Animal Shelter. We have open adoption hours 11:30am-5pm daily – no appointment or application needed.
Please note, in an effort to keep the stress levels reduced for the dogs in our care, our dog kennel areas will not be open to walk through. Interested adopters will work with a matchmaker on staff to determine which dog(s) they are interested in and if we can identify a match, potential adopters will be able to meet those dogs outside of the kennel. Cat areas will remain open to walk through.
MY ADOPTION FEE WILL BE WAIVED BETWEEN FEBRUARY 17 – 23 AS PART OF THE MISSED CONNECTIONS ADOPTION EVENT !!!
Meet Willa, a wiggly, energetic girl who is eager to learn and full of
potential! Willa is looking for an adopter who can give her time to
decompress, understand her communications, and help her navigate her new
home. With plenty of physical and mental stimulation, Willa will thrive as
she learns to make good choices and settles into her routine.
Willa could do well with a well-matched, mature dog friend to show her the
ropes. With proper introductions, Willa might also live happily alongside
a dog-savvy cat. Willa could live with children who can actively
participate in her training and help her grow into her best self. Ready to
bring this fun-loving and teachable companion into your life? She`s waiting
to meet you!
Meet Lola! Lola is a sweet and playful cat who will give you lots of meows to let you know when she wants to play. She loves ear/head scratches and would do great in a home where there are people around to keep her company and giver her all the attention she knows she deserves. While not necessarily a lap cat, she is very playful, and she does like to be near her people. She will do best with people who give her the time she needs to get adjusted to her new home.
If you think this cat could be a good match for your home and would like to learn more, stop by our Boston Adoption Center. We have open adoption hours Tuesday-Sunday from 12pm-3pm – no appointment needed.

Meet Gentry! He is happy, bouncy, and super wiggly. Gentry loves to play and is full of energy so he would make a great companion for a hiker, runner, or just an admirer of the great outdoors. Lots of things make Gentry excited, so adopters should continue to train with him so he can learn how to settle and have quiet time. Kids in the home should be able to participate in training and be un-phased by a bouncy pup and his goofy antics.
If you think Gentry could be a good match for your home and would like to learn more, stop by MSPCA Northeast Animal Shelter. We have open adoption hours 11:30am-5pm daily – no appointment or application needed.

This rat is part of a group of undersocialized rats from an overcrowding situation. He can be friendly but is currently very shy around people and will will need a patient adopter who can work with him to be more comfortable around people. He may do best with another well matched more social male rat.Rats are nocturnal, highly social and extremely intelligent animals! Due to the highly social nature of rats we prefer to match them with homes with existing rats, or to adopters looking to take home two or more rats. Rats can be food driven (and great foragers!) making them excellent animals to train. We always recommend the use of positive reinforcement training with your animals, and are happy to provide more information on this topic.

We recommend providing a safe indoor enclosure that allows the rat plenty of space to exercise. The minimum cage size should be 2’x2.5’x2’, with good ventilation (no glass enclosures) and must have a solid base. Timber is a snuggly little pup who can’t wait to find a home of his own! This little boy came to us from a southern shelter so we don’t know much about his history, but he is adjusting well to life in New England. Timber has been through a lot of transitions in his short life so he is looking for a family that can help him settle in at his own pace and teach him about the world in a safe and fun way. He could live with a social, tolerant dog friend and could likely live with kids.
If you think this dog could be a good match for your home and would like to learn more, stop by our Boston Adoption Center. We have open adoption hours Tuesday-Sunday from 12pm-3pm – no appointment needed to speak to a staff person regarding available dogs.

Meet Moon! Moon recently arrived at MSPCA from Pasadena Humane Society as part of our efforts to support people and pets who have been impacted by wildfires in California. This sweetie is still settling in and getting to know the world around them, but so far, they’ve shown a gentle and friendly nature. They’re easy-going, enjoy cuddles, and are always up for a walk or some playtime. Like any dog, Moon will need time to adjust to a new environment, but you’ll likely be unable to imagine your life without them in no time.
If you’d like to learn more, stop by MSPCA at Northeast Animal Shelter. We have open adoption hours 11:30am-5pm daily – no appointment or application needed.

This pet recently arrived at the adoption center and is ready to find a new home of their own! We are still getting to know them and we’d love for you to come in to meet them and see if they are a good match for your family!

If you’ve always wanted backyard goats, look no further! We have several wethers who are looking for new homes.
Goats are very social animals and these Mini LaManchas get along quite well, so we are aiming to send them home as a group but are open to sending them home in pairs depending on what you’re looking for! If you already have a herd, we recommend these goats go home with other horned goats.
They will require a fenced in area with appropriate shelter for inclement weather. Since goats are considered livestock, you will need to check with your town to make sure they are allowed in your area. We’re here to support you and answer whatever questions you may have, so please reach out if you think you could offer a loving home to some of these wonderful goats!
This little guy is Hambone. He is the kind of dog that never, ever gets
enough attention. He would love to hang out on the couch with you and
watch a movie or two. Hambone is sweet and friendly and does not mind being
picked up. Since he was found as a stray, we do not know anything of his
previous life. All his dog interactions at the shelter were successful, so
he could probably live with another dog. And he could also possibly live
with a dog-savvy cat. Children in the home will need to be old enough to
be respectful of a small dog.
Although he is a tiny dog, he can be quite vocal when he wants something.
Adopters will need to keep Hector busy with mental and physical stimulation
to keep him engaged. Would you like to meet Hambone? Visit him at the
MSPCA in Methuen on Tuesday through Sunday from 12PM to 4:30PM.
Meet Lint! Lint was originally transported here from the south and is looking for her new home up north. She’s a SUPER active lady and sometimes her adventurous spirit can get her into trouble! She’s been known to inappropriately use her claws and teeth when she’s bored. It will be important for her next adopter to provide enrichment to keep her entertained. She could even do well as an indoor/outdoor cat or a working cat! Playing with toys like “Da Bird” and feeding her out of puzzle bowls are two types of enriching activities that will benefit this pretty lady.
If you think this cat could be a good match for your home and would like to learn more, stop by our Cape Cod Adoption Center. We have open adoption hours Tuesday-Sunday from 1pm-4pm – no appointment or application needed.

Meet Sampson, a happy, bouncy, and super wiggly guy who loves to play fetch and go for runs! He is full of energy and would make a great adventure companion for a hiker, runner, or otherwise active and outdoorsy adopter. Lots of things make Sampson excited, so adopters should continue to train with him and provide plenty of enrichment so he can learn to settle and enjoy quiet time. For an energetic and enthusiastic pup, he`s also surprisingly snuggly – he is very affectionate and loves belly rubs from his human friends. He`s still learning the difference between a play session and snuggle time, and could use some support to successfully make that transition. Kids in the home should be able to participate in training and unfazed by a bouncy pup and his goofy antics.
